Salisbury City Council rezoned approximately 10 acres behind the Salisbury Mall Tuesday to clear the way for development of 48 more apartment units.
Council approved a change from Highway Business to Residential Mixed-Use.
The new apartments will represent the second phase of Westridge Place.
The new development will have two means of access ó one from the existing Westridge Place apartments and a new driveway connecting to the mall site.
The apartment complex will have six two-story buildings for the housing units, a single-story resident computer center and some areas designated as recreational open space.
The 10-acre tract is currently undeveloped, sloping away from the mall property.
Hotel Group of Salisbury Inc. is listed as the present owner.
