Almost one week after the Barr family chest was taken from their front yard lemonade stand, the trunk found its way back home.
The trunk had been removed while the Barrs’ children were putting the finishing touches on their 10-cent lemonade stand sign.
Around 11:30 p.m., July 21, the chest, which had been in the Barr family for more than 25 years, reappeared along with a phone call from a pay phone.
According to Gwin Barr, a woman explained that she thought it was trash until she read the story in the paper.
“We were pleasantly surprised,” Barr said.
Regretfully, the anonymous woman explained that she had already given away the family’s dress-up clothes that the chest contained. But, she replaced them with other dress up clothes and a typed apology, Barr recounted.
“My children saw the trunk and squealed,” Barr laughed. “They’ve been dressing up in the clothes all day.”
