College football: Bradford won’t start against No. 17 Miami

OKLAHOMA CITY ó Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford will not start for No. 8 Oklahoma on Saturday at No. 17 Miami.
Sooners coach Bob Stoops said Thursday that Landry Jones will start for Bradford, who hasn’t played since spraining the AC joint in his throwing shoulder the first week of the season.
Stoops did not say whether Bradford could serve as Jones’ backup. When he last spoke to reporters, Stoops said he had not ruled out playing both quarterbacks against the Hurricanes (2-1).

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. ó Noel Devine ran for a career-high 220 yards and a TD, leading West Virginia to a 35-24 victory over Colorado.

Freshman Bryce Brown has played with a nagging hip injury.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ó Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson says it’s “absolutely untrue” that coach Tommy West has taken a buyout.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. ó Syracuse is naming the Carrier Dome field “Ernie Davis Legends Field.”
The tribute to the 1961 Heisman Trophy winner comes a year after the release of a movie about his life called “The Express.” Davis, the first black player to win college football’s highest honor, died of leukemia before playing a game in the NFL.
