Streaks: Salisbury has won the last five meetings on the field
The last time North beat the Hornets on the field: The Cavs nipped the Hornets 16-13 in 2003. Remember Kevin McMillan? He kicked the winning field goal.
Last week: North fell to Lexington 29-0; Salisbury lost to West Rowan 14-7 in a bruiser
Next week: Salisbury is home against 4A Davie; North Rowan plays undefeated South Stanly at home in a YVC opener
Game notes: One of the county’s great rivalries should still draw a crowd, but this game isn’t expected to generate much heat.
Salisbury appears far superior to a North team that hasn’t dented the scoreboard all season. Dating back to 2008, North has gone 14 quarters without scoring a point.
North hasn’t been shut out four straight times since 1958, when Davie, Children’s Home, Statesville and Landis put the clamps on the Cavs in consecutive weeks. Salisbury’sdefense probably won’t mind helping North equal a school record.
Young receiver Pierre Givens had a 51-yard catch last week, but North has turned the ball over 11 times in its last two games. Salisbury corners Jeremiah Stockdale and Joseph Figueroa gave West trouble and are ready to feast on errant throws. Salisbury’s pass defense ranks second in the county.
It should be a more competitive matchup when Salisbury has the ball. Its offensive numbers rank third in the county, and North ranks third defensively.
