Richards publishes new book
“War Time Preaching and Teaching” by Jeffrey Jon Richards of Salisbury will be released by Cambridge Scholars Press in early September. The book explores the hermeneutics (science of interpretation) and homiletics (art of preaching) of both Rudolf Bultmann and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
The work discusses the thought and impact of these two theologians primarily as debated by American pastors and theologians. The book attempts to objectively view their methods of biblical interpretation and how they expressed their research in their writings, preaching, and teaching during World War II. Both concluded that presenting the Gospel in a relevant manner is the ultimate message for humankind. Both lived during a challenging period of world history, but were able to communicate in a captivating manner.
Richards has served on the faculties of universities and seminaries. In recent years, he has taught and preached in Germany, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Congo. He is pastor of New Gilead Church in Concord.
