The Amadeus Summer Session music camp welcomed accordionist Lorna Brown this past week.
She brought her entire collection of instruments, plus some she had borrowed, so all of the campers could try their hand at playing the accordion. They also learned about the history and construction of the instrument, and about polka music.
The camp has been the site this week of performances by gospel artists Rebecca Stinson and Phyllis Partee and world music by The Lightning Bugs.
The second week will include a performance by Salisbury Brass, a masterclass with opera singer Teresa Moore-Mitchell and a presentation by Knoxville swing band Christabel and the Jons.
The camp will conclude Friday, July 17 with a performance of an original musical with script and lyrics by camper Will Merrick set to music as a camp project.
Summer Session is being held at Looking Glass Artist Collective, sponsored by Amadeus Youth Chorus, St. Lukeís Episcopal Church and Rowan Blues and Jazz Society.
