Area sports briefs: Lexington nips Mocksville

Mocksville’s American Legion baseball team fell 6-5 against Lexington on Saturday night.
With runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Lexington broke a 5-all tie with a long hit to right field.
Zeb Cope went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI for Mocksville (9-10, 6-9). Carlos Bautista was 2-for-4, and Clint Howell homered.
n Area golf
Salisbury resident Frank Adams shot a final-round 76 and finished tied for sixth in the eGolf Professional Tour’s $300,000 Spring Creek Championship held in Gordonsville, Va.
Adams, who led after three rounds, finished five shots off the pace at 11-under 277. He shot 68-66-67 ó the first three rounds.
n Intimidators win
The Kannapolis Intimidators pounded out 16 hits and outscored Hickory 8-7 on Saturday night at Fran Stadium.
Kannapolis won despite handing the Crawdads seven walks and five hit batsmen.
Leroy Hunt was the winning pitcher in relief.
n Minor leagues
The Oakland Athletics have sent down David Thomas (Catawba) from advanced Class A Stockton to Class A Kane County.
Thomas began the season at Kane County and hit over .300. He was batting .218 at Stockton with two homers and 19 RBIs.
Thomas had two hits for Kane County on Friday.
n Jerry Sands (Catawba) had two hits for Ogden on Friday and had a run-scoring single Saturday. He’s batting over. 400.
n Spencer Steedley (East Rowan) pitched a scoreless inning for Fort Myers in a 6-4 loss against Dayton on Saturday and lowered his ERA to 1.02.
n Bristol’s Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) was 1-for-4 and scored a run in Saturday’s 9-0 win against Princeton in the Appalachian League.
n Wood bat leagues
Craige Lyerly (East Rowan, Catawba) had three hits for Asheboro in Saturday’s 8-4 win against Petersburg.
Zach Brown (South Rowan) started on the mound for Asheboro, allowed four runs in 41/3 innings and didn’t get a decision.
Nathan Furr (Catawba) pitched a scoreless ninth for Asheboro.
n Junior Legion
Carson beat Lexington twice Saturday, winning 8-3 in the completion of a suspended game and 15-8.
Ethan Free, Kyle Bridges and Patrick Bearden did the job on the mound in the suspended game that was resumed in the fifth inning.
Connor Bridges had a key two-out hit to score Zach Gragg and Patrick Hampton. Kyle Bridges went 2-for-2.
Carson banged out 15 hits in the nightcap and put together two six-run innings.
Gragg, Hampton, Jonathan Barringer and Bobby Richards had two hits each. Gragg knocked in three runs, while Kyle Bridges, Hampton and Richards had two RBIs apiece.
Free, Justin Morrison, Jesse Park and Bearden did the pitching.
n Hurley Y programs
Registration continues through Monday for T-Ball for girls and boys ages 4-7 and Coach Pitch for ages 6-9.

n ER wrestling camp
The East Rowan wrestling camp for all ages will be held Tuesday and Wednesday.
