Outdoors roundup: Rockwell first-grader bags turkey

Sarah Margaret Dyer, a first-grader at Rockwell Elementary School, killed a 21-pound double bearded turkey while hunting with her father.
One beard was 11 inches and the other was 8 inches.
She used a 20-gauge shotgun while hunting in Virginia.

The Blue Ridge Bass Anglers club is holding a night fishing tournament at Lake Norman on June 6 from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Pinnacle Landing (N.C. 150 bridge).
Entry fee is $70 per team (which includes both big fish pots). First place is a guaranteed $1,200 (with a minimum 50-boat field). Tonda Stiller of Salisbury caught a 10-pound catfish using a worm at High Rock Lake near Tamarac Marina. She gave the big cat to friends who were fishing with her.

The fourth tournament on the Fishers Of Men Piedmont Division Trail was held at Badin Lake on May 16.
Dave Snyder and Byron Odaniel of Charlotte won first place with 19.54 pounds of bass. They earned a paycheck of $1,286. First big fish of the day was won by Jerry and Wayne Bost of Salisbury with a 5.58-pound lunker.
