ACC baseball: UNC opens with win over Duke

DURHAM ó Adam Warren was strong on the mound to help North Carolina beat Duke 8-3 in its ACC baseball championship opener on Wednesday night.Warren (7-2) allowed six hits and three runs in 81/3 innings for the second-seeded Tar Heels (42-14). He got plenty of help from Dustin Ackley, who hit two home runs and had four RBIs to lead the offense. Ackley’s solo shot in the first inning put North Carolina ahead to stay, and former Northwest Cabarrus standout Kyle Seager added three hits.
Christopher Manno (5-6) took the loss for the seventh-seeded Blue Devils (34-23), allowing seven hits and four runs in five innings.
Both teams will be off today. The Tar Heels face No. 6 seed Virginia on Friday in the division-play format, and Duke faces third-seeded Clemson.
FSU 7, Boston College 2
Mike McGee hit a two-run homer while Sean Gilmartin had a strong pitching effort.
Florida State (41-14) faces fifth-seeded Miami today, and Boston College (31-24) faces fourth-seeded Georgia Tech.
Miami 8, Georgia Tech 6
Jason Hagerty had an RBI double in a seven-run sixth inning to help Miami (36-18) beat Georgia Tech (34-16-1).
Miami sent 13 batters to the plate and had eight hits in the sixth.
Deck McGuire (10-1) took the loss despite holding the Hurricanes without a hit for the first 51/3 innings.
