2A girls regional: Salisbury edges North for first

Salisbury’s girls track and field team edged rival North Rowan for the 2A Midwest Regional title on Saturday in Monroe.
The Hornets finished with 120.5 points, and second-place North had 116. Hibriten took third with 83.5.
Alisha Bradshaw (114-11 in the discus, 37-21/2 in the shot put) won two individual titles for Salisbury. The 4×800 team of Katherine Shields, Emily Shields, Brooke Johnson and Katelyn Horning won with a time of 10:22.
North Rowan freshman Teaunna Cuthbertson won three individual events and was part of the first-place 4×200 team with Yasarian Bush, Akevia Charleston and Tatiana Banks (1:45). Cuthbertson took first in the long jump (18-11), triple jump (36-101/2) and 100 hurdles (15.63). Her margin of victory in that event was nearly two seconds.
Bush won the 200 (25.46), and North had two other relay wins: the 4×100 team of Charleston, Bush, Corbin Bennett and Abril Ellis (49.91) as well as the 4×400 team of Charleston, Banks, Shaquille Bagley and Tenesha Dickerson (4:20).
Salisbury had four second-place showings: Shi-Heria Shipp (high jump, 4-10), Emily Shields (800, 2:26), Katherine Shields (3200, 12:38) and the 4×200 team of Shipp, Symone Knox, Najwa Allison and Kia Rice (1:51).
Melaney Ramos took third in the long jump (16-53/4), 100 (13.02) and 200 (26.15). Salisbury’s other third places came from Katherine Shields (1600, 5:39) and Dasia McGill (triple jump, 33-2).
Salisbury got fourth-place finishes from McGill (long jump, 16-1) and Johnson (1600, 5:47).
For North Rowan, second-place finishes came from Bush (long jump, 16-111/2), Bennett (100, 13.01) and Banks (400, 1:03). Dirika Mitchell (shot put, 35-1) and Bagley (300 hurdles, 51.48) placed third in events, and Ja Lesa Stalling was fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.23).
