Local merchants appreciate support
Thank you, Elaine Brown, for your beautiful letter supporting our local businesses. If it weren’t for people like you, none of us would still be here.
As an owner of a shop downtown, I can see how my business has suffered from this economy, but I have many wonderful customers who still come in to see me even if they have very little money to spend. I appreciate any purchase, no matter how small.
My fellow downtown merchants are like me, with families to support and bills to pay. We need and greatly appreciate any business you can send our way.
I feel very lucky to live in such a great city where people have such love and support for each other. Please help keep Salisbury and it’s surrounding cities strong.

Diminishing women
It doesn’t need to concern us if Cal Thomas says that some people would prefer to believe that global warming is unreal ó or, if real, not influenced by greenhouse-gas emissions.
On the other hand, it does need to concern us if state Sen. Andrew Brock pushes a bill to prohibit the N.C. health plan from paying for abortions. Perhaps Senator Brock does not have daughters, granddaughters or great-granddaughters, but I do, and I strongly object when their welfare is deliberately diminished by the Brocks of this world.

Use your headlights
Last week during our four rainy days, I drove from East Ridge Road and U.S. 601 to Innes and Arlington. It was raining a good clip.
The oncoming traffic was a sight. We counted 60 cars not using their headlights but with the wipers on.
Gray cars are hard enough to see on a clear day.
This is a very dangerous situation.
Also, we did not see one patrol car. Aren’t laws supposed to be enforced?
Ticket these offenders, please
