TAMPA, Fla.ó Derek Jeter has rejoined the New York Yankees from the World Baseball Classic and was in the starting lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
The Yankees captain went 1-for-5 in the United States’ 9-4 loss to Japan in the WBC semifinals Sunday night. He returned to Florida on Monday.
Jeter went 8-for-29 (.276), scored twice and had two doubles in eight games with the U.S. team.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. ó Brian McCann will use the rest of spring training to become familiar with Atlanta’s new starting pitchers. His swing is already set.
McCann, who batted .333 for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, had singles in his first two at-bats as he returned to the Braves lineup Tuesday.

TEMPE, Ariz. ó Gary Matthews Jr. wants to play every day. His performance this spring should only help.
Matthews hit a long home run off starter Cha Seung Baek and went 2-for-3, boosting his batting average to .412 in the Los Angeles Angels’ 10-5 victory over the San Diego Padres.

MESA, Ariz. ó Milton Bradley hit his second spring homer and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies.
Phillies 7, Blue Jays 6
DUNEDIN, Fla. ó Chase Utley hit his first home run since hip surgery and Chan Ho Park made his latest bid for a rotation spot, helping the Philadelphia Phillies rally past the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6.
Utley drove in three runs, two on a homer off closer B.J. Ryan. It was the All-Star second baseman’s first long ball since he had hip surgery in November.

TUCSON, Ariz. ó Eric Byrnes had two more hits Tuesday for the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 7-3 loss.
