Music honor rating
Salem Hockett, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. David Hockett, received an honor rating of Excellent in the March 14 Festival of the state’s most professional contest. The National Music Teachers’ Association holds to the highest principles of performance standards in the country.
Citing Ms. Hockett’s observance of “all the composer’s markings on the score, and stylistic traits of the period,” the judge awarded her this rating. He also added that she was playing remarkably challenging and sophisticated music.
Salem is a student of Frances McGill with McGill Music Studios. She has studied for more than five years, and is performing on the eighth-grade level of music.
