RALEIGH ó Ray Whitney scored three power-play goals to reach 300 for his career in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 6-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday night.
The Hurricanes scored three times in the final 5:09 of the first period, including a rebound goal by Erik Cole in his first game back with the franchise after a trade-deadline deal with Edmonton on Wednesday. Sergei Samsonov and Scott Walker also scored, and Cam Ward made 21 saves ó allowing only Jarome Iginla’s 29th goal with 3:49 left.
The Hurricanes, fighting for an Eastern playoff shot, have won six of their last eight games.
Whitney opened the scoring for Carolina off a feed from Samsonov.

BUFFALO, N.Y. ó Tim Connolly had two goals and two assists, and Patrick Lalime made 29 saves in the Buffalo Sabres’ 5-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.

ATLANTA ó Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves, and Bryan Little scored on a put-back with 2:32 left in the opening period for Atlanta.

TAMPA, Fla. ó Brad Boyes scored 27 seconds into overtime for St. Louis, and also set up two first-period goals.
