Catawba’s men (15-8, 7-5) lost a close game at Lincoln Memorial, a contest that dramatically changed the direction of their season. Catawba had a two-game lead in the SAC race when it was upset by the Railsplitters (13-11, 7-6) in January.
Catawba’s women (14-9, 6-6) won the first meeting at Lincoln Memorial 74-66. The Railsplitters are 10-14, 4-9.

– Prep boys basketball
A season full of close losses ended for Davie County as the War Eagles fell to host R.J. Reynolds 67-64 in the first round of the CPC tournament on Tuesday night.
Davie (5-19) held a three-point lead in the fourth quarter.
“We’ve just been snakebit over here,” Davie coach Mike Absher said.
It was the last game for Absher’s son, Drew (17 points), one of the top scorers in school history, as well as for reliable James Mayfield (13).
At least, Coach Absher thinks it’s the last game.
“With only six wins, the chance of a wild card is slim,” he said.
Shannon Dillard makes the future bright for Davie. The 6-foot-3 freshman was a workhorse inside against the Demons, scoring 24 points. He was 10-for-12 from the foul line.
“They really couldn’t stop him,” Absher said. “He’s one of those kids that if he grows four or five more inches, he’ll be the real deal. They say he’s not done. And the scary part is he hasn’t learned how to play yet.”
– Prep girls basketball

It was West’s first losing season since 1995. A bright spot was Avery, a sophomore who averaged 20.2 points a game, the fourth-highest figure in program history.
