The college basketball notebook …
GREENSBORO ó North Carolina’s Ty Lawson and Virginia’s Sylven Landesberg earned weekly honors from the ACC on Monday.
Lawson was named player of the week after leading the third-ranked Tar Heels to road wins at Duke and Miami. He had 21 of 25 points in the second half of North Carolina’s 101-87 win at Cameron Indoor Stadium, then scored 21 points with three critical 3-pointers in the final minutes of a 69-65 win over the Hurricanes.
Landesberg was named rookie of the week for the sixth time this year after averaging 18.5 points and five rebounds in two games. He had 14 points and six rebounds in a loss at Florida State, then scored 23 points to lead an overtime upset of No. 13 Clemson at home.
ZELLER UPDATE
CHAPEL HILL ó North Carolina coach Roy Williams said he expects a decision this week on whether freshman 7-footer Tyler Zeller will return from injury or take a redshirt.
Zeller broke his left wrist late in the win against Kentucky on Nov. 18. He had surgery the next day and was expected to miss the rest of the season, but recently returned to limited practice.
Williams said Monday he had a conference call with Zeller and his parents to discuss his future.
Zeller’s return would bolster third-ranked North Carolina’s depth, which has taken a hit after losing Marcus Ginyard to injury and reserve Will Graves to suspension.
Zeller started the first two games while national player of the year Tyler Hansbrough sat out with an injury.
