CLEVELAND ó Marcus Barber was well on his way to opening a new funeral home last year when trouble hit.
An August storm damaged the building so badly that he basically had start over.
Now the new Cleveland Funeral Services building is complete, and Barber is planning to open for business at 111 Railroad St.
“It’s been my dream for 15 years. Now it’s a reality,” said Barber, 32.
Paul Harris, executive director of the N.C. Board of Funeral Service, said an inspection was made in January but the final approval and permit to operate hasn’t been processed yet.
Barber is president, founder and owner. While working as general contractor for the original building, Barber said he will handle the funeral activities with the help of six employees.
He said cremation services start at $850 and funeral service packages start at $4,150.
He told the Post earlier he wants Cleveland Funeral Services to be where people in the western part of the county turn in their time of need. He said then he came up with the first set of blueprints for the building in 1995. What was originally planned as a 2,200-square-foot structure ended up being about 3,000 square feet. He also is already looking at plans to build on a chapel after purchasing an adjacent lot.
