Atlantic 10 Basketball: LaSalle beats Charlotte

CHARLOTTE ó Ruben Guillandeaux scored 14 points and LaSalle defeated Charlotte 68-61 on Monday night in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Terrell Williams had 10 points and 11 rebounds for LaSalle (9-6, 1-1), which outrebounded Charlotte 50-25.
Rodney Green and Yves Mekongo Mbala added 11 points each and LaSalle scored 27 second-chance points to Charlotte’s five. It was LaSalle’s first victory against Charlotte in five tries since the 49ers (5-10, 0-2) joined the conference. The Explorers have won four out of their last five.
Lamont Mack had 23 points, Charlie Coley added 11 and Phil Jones chipped in 10 points for the 49ers, who lost their fourth straight.
Charlotte was 4 of 21 from 3-point range and, despite the descrepency in rebounding, took a 51-50 lead on a 3-pointer from Phil Jones with 6 minutes left.
The 49ers used a 14-2 run to take a 45-43 lead on Rashad Coleman’s baseline drive with 10:27 left.
Guillandeaux closed the game on a 3-pointer followed by two free throws in the final minute.
An’Juan Wilderness returned for Charlotte after missing five games with a stress fracture in his left foot, but was limited to six points.
All but two LaSalle players had a rebound in the first half. The Explorers totaled 28 rebounds at halftime, taking advantage of 15 missed field goal attempts for Charlotte, which was limited to three offensive rebounds.
Charlotte sixth man Ian Anderson, who has five double-digit scoring games this season, was held scoreless for the second straight game.

OLEAN, N.Y. ó Ahmad Nivins scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Saint Joseph’s to a 62-51 win over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday in Atlantic 10 play.
Idris Hilliard scored a game-high 17 points for the Hawks (8-7, 2-0). Darrin Govens scored 11 points and had eight rebounds, while Tasheed Carr kicked in eight points.
Duquesne 88, George Washington 83
PITTSBURGH ó Freshman Melquan Bolding scored a career-high 26 points, Bill Clark and Aaron Jackson had 14 points, and Duquesne rallied to beat George Washington 88-83 for its seventh straight victory.
Eric Evans scored 13 points and Damian Saunders added 11 for Duquesne (12-4), which is 3-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference for the first time in the school’s history.
Saint Louis 69, Massachusetts 64
ST. LOUIS ó Tommie Liddell III had 14 points and nine rebounds and Kwamain Mitchell added 14 points to lead Saint Louis over Massachusetts 69-64.
Kevin Lisch added 13 points and Paul Eckerle scored 12, all from 3-point range, as the Billikens (10-6, 1-1) won their eighth straight home game.Chris Lowe led UMass (6-9, 1-1) with 21 points.
Dayton 72, Fordham 71
DAYTON, Ohio ó Rob Lowry scored 13 points and made a go-ahead layup with 5 seconds to play Wednesday night, rallying Dayton to a 72-71 victory over Fordham.
The Flyers (15-2, 1-1 Atlantic 10) sealed the win when Lowry stole the ball from Jio Fontan with 2 seconds left, preserving Dayton’s streak of 13 straight wins at home.
