Robert McGriff scored 28 points, but Coker knocked off Pfeiffer 85-81 in Hartsville, S.C., on Saturday for a Conference Carolinas victory.
Athalie Rivera added 10 points for Pfeiffer (5-6, 2-2), which hadn’t lost to Coker in five years.
Mason Ambler led Coker with 22 points. Vatrick Thompson made seven steals.
Michael Gore (South Rowan) had two points and three rebounds for the Cobras in 12 minutes of action.
n Pfeiffer’s women’s team lost to Coker 82-77 despite 18 points and 10 boards by Shanee Purnell.
Carly Booth (Davie) had six points and four rebounds for the Falcons.
Henna Koponen scored 18 points for the Cobras.
n College women’s hoopsTracey Croner (East Rowan) scored 12 points, six in overtime, as Guilford rallied to beat Bridgewater 69-61 on Friday.
Croner had 19 points on 7-for-8 shooting in a 67-53 loss against Eastern Mennonite on Saturday.
n Meredith’s Brittany Cornelius (East) had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 60-49 loss against Averett on Thursday.
Cornelius had 10 points and eight assists in a 55-49 loss to Shenandoah on Saturday.
n Sophilia Hipps (North Rowan) scored 12 points for South Carolina State in a 62-49 loss against Delaware State on Saturday.
n College footballTicket prices for 2009 Appalachian State football home games will remain the same as in 2008, ASU athletics announced Friday.
Regular-season tickets for the Mountaineers’ six home games in 2009 will cost $160 ($25 per game, plus $10 Kidd Brewer Stadium enhancement fee).
n Tusculum quarterback Corey Russell was 11-for-20 passing for 101 yards and rushed for 71 yards on 10 carries, but the East still lost to the West 28-27 in the Cactus Bowl.
n Freshman hoops
The Salisbury ninth-grade boys basketball team defeated Lexington 53-29 on Friday.
The Hornets broke open a 8-8 game at the end of the first quarter with good defensive pressure and 18 second-quarter points.
The Hornets (2-0) were paced offensively by Deqwan Robertson and Henson Fayee. Demarcus Davidson and Kyle Wolfe led the defense.
n Prep girls hoops
Asia Steed scored 15 points and hit the decisive shot as Davie opened CPC play with a 49-48 victory against West Forsyth on Friday.
The War Eagles (7-7) overcame a 16-point halftime deficit.
n A.L. Brown’s girls lost at Porter Ridge 69-41 in SPC play despite 13 points by Jayana Lott.
n Alex Payne hit six 3-pointers to lead North Davidson to a 59-32 CPC romp over North Forsyth on Friday.
n Catawba signee Elizabeth Merritt had 14 points and nine rebounds for East Davidson in a 67-37 victory against Central Davidson on Friday.
n Prep wrestling
A.L. Brown lost to SPC foe Porter Ridge 48-29 on Friday.
Tristan Steele, Areli Reno, Morgan McDaniel and Jonathan Donatien had pins for the Wonders, and Michael Powell won by tech fall.
n The Wonders topped Hickory Ridge 59-21 Tuesday.
n Jayvee basketball
West Rowan’s girls beat Carson 46-26 on Friday.
Brittney Barber scored 20 points to lead the Falcons. Allison Dutton had 11 points, and Sarah Perrine added six.
n West’s boys topped Carson 61-52. Isiah Cuthbertson led the Falcons with 16 points. Kajuan Phillips had 13, and Maurice Warren added 12.
n East Rowan’s girls edged South Rowan 46-44. Ashley Goins led East with 15 points. She was 3-for-4 on 3-pointers and had four assists.
Summer Taylor had 12 rebounds and six steals for the Mustangs. Lindsey Dunlap had 10 rebounds and 10 points.
n Jaguar hoops
Salisbury Academy’s varsity boys Red team (12-1) got big games from Brock Overcash and John Latimer in a 46-33 victory against Davidson Country Day.
– Ann Rollins Johnson, Isabella Rusher and Grace Yatawara led the SA jayvee girls in a 16-13 loss against Davidson Country Day.
n Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys defeated Statesville Christian 47-39 on Friday.
The Dolphins were led by Brian Bauk with 18 points and four steals. Banks Fisher scored 10 points. Eric Edwards finished with six points and four steals, while Herbert Jefferson grabbed 10 rebounds.
n Kelly Dulkoski had 16 points, six steals and seven assists as Sacred Heart’s girls topped Statesville Christian 51-35. Jordan Pring had 13 points and six rebounds, while Katelyn Storey had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Dolphins (17-2).
n Racquetball tourney
Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department’s Civic Center will hold its annual Winter Racquetball Tournament on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17.
Levels of play are Open A and B/C. Registration fees are $15 for singles, $20 for singles and doubles and $10 per person for doubles. Contact the Civic Center at (704) 638-5275.
n Umpire clinic
NSA will put on an umpire clinic Sunday, Jan. 25, at Tilley Harley Davidson at 653 Bendix Drive, behind IHOP.
