Devona Knight scored 20 points to lead Pfeiffer’s women’s basketball team to a 91-87 win against Converse, its first of the season.
* Indians honored
Catawba’s Melissa Powers and Melissa Griffith were first-team picks on the N.C. Collegiate Sports Information Association College Division All-State volleyball team.
* GARS
Sixty-eight GARS members played with a Captain’s Choice format at Corbin Hills on Monday.
Clete Beaubein, Ralph Luther, Larry Morris and Gene Poplin shot minus-12 for first place.
Jim Adams, Buddy Barger, Jay Boyce and Robert Harrell shot minus-11 for second. Barger was closest to the pin on No. 2. Steele made the longest putt on No. 9.
* Smith seventh
Lauren Smith (Salisbury) shot 86 for seventh place after Monday’s first round of the Carolinas Young Amateur golf tournament.
* NSA umpires clinic
NSA will put on an umpire clinic Sunday, Jan. 25, at Tilley Harley Davidson at 653 Bendix Drive, behind the IHOP. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The clinic starts around 11 and lasts until 2 pm. Contact Genna Livengood at 704-239-6693.
