Community shares for bright Christmas
As we reflect on blessings this Christmas season, we would like to share our thanks with community churches, organizations, businesses and individuals who helped in providing holiday assistance to families in need at North Rowan Elementary School.
On the evening of Dec. 17, we held our annual “Christmas Store” to give parents who needed holiday assistance an opportunity to choose new toys, books, games and activities for their children. Our need was certainly great this year, but the community response to this need was simply overwhelming! We were able to assist in providing Christmas gifts to more than 80 of our students this year! This doubled the number of children served in the past.
In addition to those who came to the Christmas Store, other families were adopted by churches that assisted the entire family with gifts, clothing and food. The town of Spencer and its citizens also donated beautifully refinished bicycles for some children.
We would like to thank the following for supporting our efforts through contributions and donations: Central United Methodist Church/Women’s Circles, Bethel United Methodist Church, Spencer Presbyterian Church, Calvary Lutheran Church, Love Christian Center, Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, Union Chapel AME Zion, the Spencer Civitans, Margaret Waddell and the “Cruisers of Spencer,” Eastern Star/Vashti Chapter 22, The MOMS Group, Stepping Out After School Program /Gethsemane Baptist Church, the staff and customers at Rick’s BBQ and Escape the Daily Grind, the town of Spencer, Communities in Schools tutors, and the PTA, Spirit Club at N.R.E. and staff, families and friends of North Rowan Elementary.
It is indeed heartwarming to live in a community where people reach out to help those less fortunate. Our sincere thanks go to those who shared with us to help provide a bright Christmas for many of our children.
