Rowan Public Library is introducing two new online resources for discovering new books and authors.
BookNews is a new service that gives readers access to free electronic newsletters about a wide variety of books via the library’s Web site, www.rowanpubliclibrary.org, or delivered directly to their e-mail address.
Readers can access the book newsletters and select the newsletters they wish to read. They can also elect to receive any of the monthly newsletters via e-mail on the 15th of each month.
Readers can select electronic newsletters based on genres, including new fiction, new non-fiction, mystery, classics, business books, home and garden books and science fiction books. The newsletters are also categorized by books that have received awards, such as the Pulitzer Prize for history and a newsletter about works for children that have received the Caldecott Medal for illustration. Other categories include age (such as books for children and teens), large-print books, audio books and other interests.
The newsletters include reviews, descriptions and author commentaries. Links within the newsletters take subscribers directly to the Rowan Public Library catalog, so they can easily see if a title is available at the library.
Another exciting new resource is the Online Book Club, in which readers can sign up to receive chapters from popular books in their daily e-mail. Everyday, Monday through Friday, they can receive a portion of a book that takes only a few minutes to read. During a typical week, there’s a chance to read two or three chapters, enough to know if it’s a book to check out.
There is a wide variety of online clubs to choose from, including fiction, nonfiction, romance, business, teen and mystery books. Also included are links to discussion sites for the books and other interactive information. Visit the library Web site at www.rowanpubliclibrary.org for more information or to sign up.
