West Rowan wins 3A state title; A.L. Brown comes up short

WINSTON-SALEM ó West Rowan carried a shutout into the final minute and beat West Craven 35-7 in the 3A state championship game Saturday afternoon at Wake Forest’s BB&T Field.
West Rowan junior running back K.P. Parks, who scored an 81-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, was named the MVP. Parks, who set up the Falcons’ fourth score with a 56-yard carry, finished with 219 yards and three TDs.
He completed the season with 2,864 yards and 43 touchdowns.
The Falcons intercepted West Craven quarterback Brett Mooring, a Shrine Bowl selection, five times. A.J. Little led the way with two picks. Austin Greenwood, Dominique Noble and Kameron Finchum each had one. Marco Gupton, playing with a torn ACL, forced a fumble at the goal line as the Eagles attempted to tie the game in the first quarter.
Offensively, quarterback B.J. Sherrill had a 52-yard touchdown run and Jon Crucitti helped push the Falcons ahead 35-0 with a 10-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, A.L. Brown couldn’t get past undefeated Greensboro Dudley, falling 34-18 in the second game of the day.
