Jeff Wetmore, a founding officer of Community Bank of Rowan, has been promoted to vice president and senior commercial lender.
Bruce Jones, president and CEO, said in the new role Wetmore will be more active in the bank’s loan portfolio management and regulatory reporting areas.
“Jeff has been an extremely valuable asset to our community and to the bank, and always places customers and people first in his day to day banking duties. He is a leader by example and provides our customers genuine confidence in our bank,” said Seamus Donaldson, senior vice president and chief credit officer.
A lifetime resident of Rowan County, Wetmore joined Community Bank of Rowan when it opened in 2006. He has more than 10 years in banking and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington as well as Leadership Rowan. He is a Habitat for Humanity board member and serves as chairman of the organization’s Family Selection Committee. He is also active with the United Way and Chamber of Commerce. He lives in Salisbury with his wife, Betsy, and two children, Lauren and Nathan.
Bill’s Exterminating celebrates 40 years
Bill’s Exterminating Co. is celebrating 40 years of business this year.
Founded in 1968 by Bill Peeler Sr., Bill’s Exterminating has grown to become a trusted name in termite and pest control.
The company remains locally owned and operated at 2905 Old Concord Road.
Kip Peeler is CEO, and he runs the company with Bill Peeler Jr. and Tamara Ervin. Bill’s Exterminating employs 15 service professionals registered and certified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Structural Pest Control Division. They have more than 150 years experience.

Just The Thing among top retailers for toy
A deliberately playful touch with customers has helped Salisbury’s Just The Thing become one of the nation’s top retailers of a popular family game called Ruckus, according to Dan Levy, president of Funstreet, Inc.
“Just The Thing is in the top 3 percent of the 1,500 stores selling Ruckus nationwide” said Levy, the game’s creator and manufacturer. “Given that they’re a small mom and pop store, and the current economic climate, I find that pretty astonishing.”
Glenda Dyson, owner of Just The Thing, shed some light on how the store and its staff work their magic with Ruckus. “Games are hard to get a feel for if you haven’t played them, so we keep open copies and encourage the staff to play with customers whenever time allows. Ruckus is fast and easy-to-learn and works well with a lot of ages. When people see Ruckus in action, they tend to want it for themselves.”
Hannaford Bros. seeks voluntary cuts
The Hannaford Bros. supermarket chain is seeking voluntary resignations at its 750-employee headquarters in Scarborough, Maine, according a report in the Charlotte Business Journal.
Hannaford is owned by Salisbury-based Delhaize America Inc., which also operates Food Lion.
A Hannaford spokesman declined to comment on how many jobs will be eliminated. The company will offer severance based on tenure.
Salisbury recreation coordinator honored
Paul Moore, recreation coordinator at the Salisbury City Park Center, recently received the N.C. Recreation and Parks Young Professionals Award.
He picked up the award at the annual awards banquet Nov. 11 in Charlotte, during the organization’s state conference.
Moore has worked for Salisbury Parks and Recreation for more than eight years as a recreation coordinator at both the Civic Center and City Park Center.
He has helped to develop and grow the Civic Center’s annual Wedding Extravaganza, the City Park’s U.S. Tennis Association Kiwanis Junior Open Tennis Tournament, Professional Disc Golf Association tournaments and N.C. Cyclo-Cross races.
Moore is certified as a parks and recreation professional by the National Recreation and Parks Association. He is a shag dance instructor and department liaison to Rowan County Special Populations.
He has served as a committee member to the N.C. Recreation and Parks Conference and is a graduate of Supervisor’s Management School, a two-year program out of Oglebay, W.Va.
Before joining the Salisbury department, Moore was an assistant sports director with the Alamance County Community YMCA in Burlington. He is a 1998 graduate of The Citadel with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He lives in Lexington.
Walker Marketing get five Davey Awards
CONCORD ó Walker Marketing was recently honored by the Davey Awards, receiving the organization’s prestigious awards for five marketing and communications projects.
The annual awards honor the creative excellence of smaller agencies from around the world.
This year, entries were judged in more than 300 categories, spanning a full spectrum of marketing and communications specialty areas.
Walker’s awards span a range of integrated marketing tactics. The firm received a gold and four silver awards acknowledging a standard of excellence in marketing collateral, interactive projects and graphic design.
Work for two of the firm’s continuing care retirement community clients earned honors. A magazine and Web site campaign for The Cascades at Verdae earned silver awards, and a sales kit for The Cardinal at North Hills won gold.
An advertising campaign for McClancy Seasoning Co., a flavor development and research and development company, and a magazine for the city of Kannapolis both won silver awards.
Stanly hospital gets new emergency chief
Dr. Paul A. D’Amico recently became the new director of emergency medicine at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
Board-certified in emergency medicine, D’Amico is a member of ApolloMD, which began providing physician services in Stanly Regional’s emergency department during the summer.
He completed an emergency medicine residency at Kennedy Health System in Stratford, N.J.. He earned his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo.
Next year, Stanly Regional plans to begin renovations in the emergency department’s lobby. During the project, the triage and registration areas will be redesigned to provide more privacy and increased throughput for patients.
