BOSTON ó Manny Fernandez made 32 saves, and Chuck Kobasew marked his return to the Bruins lineup with a goal and an assist in Boston’s 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.
The Bruins have won six of seven and four in a row at home.
Tim Connolly gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead 10:16 into the first period with his first goal of the season. Connolly missed the first 10 games with a back injury.
Capitals 3, Rangers 1
WASHINGTON ó Brent Johnson had 28 saves, including a pivotal stop on a penalty shot in the third period, and Washington topped the New York Rangers to remain unbeaten at home.
Starting a third straight game in place of inconsistent regular Jose Theodore, Johnson improved to 3-0-2 as a starter. He turned aside 102 of 107 shots during his three-game run.
Alexander Semin scored into an empty net with 5.5 seconds left to clinch it.
Penguins 4, Islanders 3, SO
UNIONDALE, N.Y. ó Petr Sykora scored the only goal in the shootout to give Pittsburgh a come-from-behind victory.
Sykora beat Joey MacDonald on Pittsburgh’s first try, but a video review was needed for New York’s final attempt by Trent Hunter. Dany Sabourin stopped the shot, but his body carried into the Penguins net. The call was upheld because there was no clear evidence that the puck crossed the goal line.
Red Wings 3, Devils 1
DETROIT ó Marian Hossa scored two goals to lift Detroit past New Jersey. Kirk Maltby also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions (9-2-2) and Chris Osgood made 24 saves.
Zach Parise had New Jersey’s lone goal, and Kevin Weekes stopped 28 shots for the Devils (7-4-2).
Lightning 2, Flyers 1
PHILADELPHIA ó Vaclav Prospal and Jussi Jokinen scored second-period goals to lift Tampa Bay past Philadelphia.
Mike Smith made 34 saves for the Lightning, who ended a two-game losing streak.
Blue Jackets 3, Flames 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio ó Steve Mason made 22 saves to remain unbeaten in three career starts and surging Columbus beat Calgary.
The Blue Jackets have won three straight ó topping Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary since Wednesday with Mason in goalJason Chimera, Derick Brassard and Manny Malhotra scored for the Blue Jackets.
Maple Leafs 6, Canadiens 3
TORONTOó Niklas Hagman scored twice and linemate Mikhail Grabovski had a goal and an assist to lead Toronto to victory.
Grabovski has six goals and two assists in the last four games. Grabovski had three goals in 27 games with Montreal over the last two seasons and has seven in 15 for the Maple Leafs.
