Area briefs Catawba men in action

Catawba’s men’s basketball team plays at home tonight at 7 p.m. in an exhibition against Athletes in Action.
Catawba plays N.C. State at Reynolds Coliseum on Nov. 11 in another exhibition and starts the regular season at home on Nov. 15.
On Nov. 24, Catawba will play before Charlotte’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers at Bobcats Arena.
– Middle school softball
Erwin defeated Corriher-Lipe 20-0 in the first round of the conference tournament.
Sydney Poole pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 for Erwin (13-0).
Poole, Jaysa Jordan, Steffi Sides, Bobbi Thomas, Jesse Rummage, Alli Mills and Mariah Poole had two hits apiece to lead a 15-hit attack. Erwin stole eight bases.
* West Rowan Middle defeated Southeast 9-0 in a tournament semifinal on Wednesday and will play Erwin for the championship today at China Grove.
Michaela White pitched a three-hitter for the Bulldogs (11-3) and struck out 14. White, Christine Turner, Maria Taylor and Kailey Anglin led West hitters. White, Taylor, Anglin and Catherine Whitley led the defense.
– Middle school football
Southeast’s seventh-graders defeated Erwin 22-16.
Cody Dale scored two TDs for Southeast (4-3), which enjoyed a historic season. Darius Gabriel scored a touchdown. Gabriel and Colton Laws had two-point conversions.
Austin Taylor forced a fumble and Austin McNeil made an interception to stop Erwin drives. McNeil’s pick came in the final seconds.
– Corbin Hills golf
The Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association played a “Witches Choice” game on Tuesday.
The team of Phyllis Durland, Anna Robinson, Shirley Baucom and Faye Cline won with a 70.
Beth Calhoun, Eileen Full, Cindy Carmazzi and Toni Iossi shot 75 for second place. Ruth Bowles, Sharon Deal, Karla Swanson and Miriam Gruber shot 76 for third place.
– North boosters
The North Rowan Booster Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in the media center.
This is an important meeting to discuss the Thanksgiving BBQ shoulder sale, YFL concessions, a youth wrestling tournament and other noteworthy topics.
– Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy’s soccer team finished its season with a 2-0 victory over Hickory Christian in the final of the CCISAA consolation bracket.
Justin Ruffin and Philip Simons scored goals for the Jaguars (7-3-1), and Tyler Petty had the shutout in goal. He made all-tournament.
