UNIONDALE, N.Y. ó Cam Ward made 57 saves and Chad LaRose scored twice to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders 4-3 on Saturday night.
Rod Brind’Amour and Eric Staal also scored for the Hurricanes in their third straight victory at Nassau Coliseum.
Freddy Meyer, Sean Bergenheim and Mark Streit scored for New York. The Islanders have lost three straight overall and three of four home games so far this season.
Rick DiPietro started in goal and stopped 10 shots before being pulled for Joey MacDonald to start the second period. MacDonald took the loss while stopping 14 shots.
The Islanders set a franchise record with 60 shots on goal.
Rangers 3, Penguins 2, SO
NEW YORKó Nikolai Zherdev scored with 8.1 seconds left to force overtime and Fredrik Sjostrom had the only goal of the shootout in the Rangers’ victory.
The Penguins had their three-game winning streak snapped despite entering the third period with a 2-0 lead.
Flyers 3, Devils 2, OT
PHILADELPHIA ó Jeff Carter scored in overtime, and Martin Biron made 29 saves to help the Flyers beat New Jersey for the second time in two days.
The Flyers’ 6-3 victory Friday night snapped a 13-game winless streak in New Jersey and was Philadelphia’s first win of the season following six losses.
Thrashers 5, Bruins 4
BOSTON ó Milan Lucic completed his first career hat trick with 1:41 to play in the third period.
Stephane Yelle and David Krejci also scored to help Boston snap a three-game losing streak. Vyacheslav Kozlov, Ilya Kovalchuk, Jason Williams and Mathieu Schneider scored for Atlanta.
Ducks 6, Canadiens 4
MONTREAL ó Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and two assists and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 47 shots in Anaheim’s third straight victory.
Maple Leafs 3, Senators 2
TORONTO ó Alexei Ponikarovsky scored a third-period goal, Dominic Moore and Mikhail Grabovsky also scored and Vesa Toskala made 22 saves for Toronto.
