* Next week: A.L. Brown is home against Porter Ridge; Hickory Ridge is at Piedmont
* Game notes: Hickory Ridge is 4-0 against Cabarrus County teams and 0-5 against teams that arenít located in Cabarrus County. So maybe A.L. Brown should be worried.
Then again, maybe Cabarrus football, outside of Brown, just isnít all that good this year.
Hickory Ridgeís season got off to a sensational start with four wins (including a wipeout of Concord) and a one-point loss through five games.
But then the Raginí Bulls ran into some of the better squads in the SPC ó Anson, Sun Valley, Marvin Ridge and Parkwood ó and dropped four straight.
The Bulls, led by quarterback Brett Lilly, bottomed out last week when they lost 30-3 to Parkwood. Brown breezed by Parkwood 45-21.
As usual, Brown isnít piling up any eye-popping numbers, but it keeps grinding out wins. Counting only SPC games, Brown ranks third in the league in offense and fifth in defense.
Brown wins with offensive linemen such as Darius Norris and defensive guys such as Mark Goodjohn, who quietly gets it done week after week.
Brown figures to take care of Hickory Ridge while Anson and Sun Valley fight it out tonight in a fierce elimination game for SPC title contention.
Brown is one of four teams in the league with only one SPC loss, but itís in the best shape as far as the schedule. The Wonders are 2-1 against the other three.
