College Football Roundup: Edwards leads Appalachian State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ó Armanti Edwards threw for 307 yards, ran for 63 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lead Appalachian State to a 28-24 win over Samford on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2 Southern Conference) took a 14-7 lead in the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown by Chris Evans, who finished with 144 yards rushing on 28 carries. He also had 48 yards receiving on six catches.
Robet Welton’s 8-yard rushing score tied the game at 14-14 in the second then the Mountaineers (4-2, 2-0) took the lead for the first time when Edwards threw a 50-yard touchdown to CoCo Hillary. Edwards connected with Hillary again on an 11-yard passing score in the second to give Appalachian State a 28-14 lead.
Edwards, who finished with 13 carries, scored on a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter. He also had a 44-yard touchdown pass to Tavaris Washington in the first quarter.
S. Carolina 24, Kentucky 17
LEXINGTON, Ky. ó Captain Munnerlyn returned a blocked field goal 81 yards for a touchdown and set up another score with an 84-yard kickoff return as South Carolina defeated Kentucky 24-17 Saturday, improving Steve Spurrier’s record to 16-0 against the Wildcats.
South Carolina (5-2, 2-2) won its ninth consecutive meeting against Kentucky (4-2, 0-2).

Michigan’s K.C. Lopata missed a 26-yard field goal with four seconds left, giving the Rockets a 13-10 win over the once-mighty Wolverines, who fell to 2-4.
Furman 28, W. Carolina 21
GREENVILLE, S.C. ó Mike Brown ran for two touchdowns to lead Furman to a 28-21 win against Western Carolina.
Brown ran for 122 yards and two scores on 16 carries for the Paladins (5-2, 2-1 Southern Conference).
Zach Jaynes completed 33 of 48 passes for 302 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He added 36 yards rushing on nine carries and a touchdown for the Catamounts (2-5, 0-3).

CHARLESTON, S.C. ó Scott Riddle threw two touchdown passes, including the game-winner in the third quarter, to help lead Elon to a 27-23 victory against The Citadel.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ó Ben Widmyer accounted for four touchdowns to lead Wofford (4-1, 2-0, SoCon) to a 56-7 rout over Chattanooga.

LEXINGTON, Va. ó Tim Maypray ran for 155 yards yards on 22 carries and accounted for two touchdowns to lead Virginia Military Institute to a 47-20 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Brandon Autry’s 31-yard fumble recovery score put the Chanticleers (3-4, 0-2) ahead 14-7 at the close of the first quarter.

VALPARAISO, Ind. ó Jake Riedel scored from 2 yards out in overtime and Anthony Curry intercepted a Davidson pass as Valparaiso came from 18 points down for a 35-29 victory.

CLINTON, S.C. ó S.J. Worrell ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns and a late fumble helped Presbyterian hold off a North Carolina Central rally to win 28-24.

GREENSBORO, ó Devan James rushed for 103 yards and Mario Melton added 97 yards on the ground to lead Morgan State to a 41-3 victory over North Carolina A&T (2-5, 0-3, MEAC).
