The Salisbury Post announced a voluntary separation program today that will offer incentives for employees who choose to accept a buyout.
Publisher Greg Anderson informed employees about the program in a letter that detailed the incentives, including two weeks’ pay for every year of service, up to a year’s pay, and medical benefits for employees 58 and older.
“Like many in our industry and others, The Post’s economic outlook has changed in the last year, and we are taking steps to reduce expenses,” Anderson said. “We are still committed to covering the community and giving readers local news and advertising that they cannot get anywhere else.”
While many U.S. newspapers are experiencing steep declines in readership, that hasn’t been the case at The Post, Anderson said. Through its print and online editions, the Post reaches about 61,000 readers, or more than 50 percent of the local adult population, he said.
The Post has 104 full- and part-time employees.
