The Rockwell High School class of 1958 held its 50th reunion Sept. 27 at the Country Club of Salisbury. There were 57 classmates and guests in attendance.
A social hour was enjoyed by reminiscing about school days, viewing old photographs and mementos and catching up with one another.
A frameable “Certificate of Meritorious Attendance” was given to each classmate with their name printed on it, acknowledging meritorious school spirit by gracious attendance at the celebration of the milestone occasion of the 50th reunion of Rockwell High School Class of 1958. The certificates were prepared by Tom Dellinger.Following a class picture they enjoyed a buffet dinner. Invocation was given by Loretta Holshouser Warner.
Numerous door prizes were given out. Music and special entertainment was provided by Elvis impersonator Michael Thomas known as Mailvis.
Serving on the reunion committee were Norma Jean Barringer Beeker, Tom Dellinger, Helen Featherstone Eddleman, Judy Ward Gainey, Frances Agner Heilig, Robert Rinehardt, and Loretta Holshouser Warner.
A memorial table was set up in memory on the deceased class members displaying each picture with a lighted white candle for each one with a large bouquet of roses in the center. Roses were provided by Frances Morgan Agner.

Andrews anniversary
Ken and Sylvia Andrews of Salisbury celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 7, 2008.
The couple were united in marriage June 7, 1968, in Lakeland , Fla., by the Rev. Clayburn Andrews, father of the groom.
Ken is the Interactive Product Manager for Interface Security Systems LLC out of Earth City, Mo. Sylvia is the obituary and Celebrations editor for the Salisbury Post.Ken and Sylvia have two children. Their son, Brian, lives in Salisbury and is a technician with Interface Security Systems. Their daughter, Cheryl, is an attorney in Winston-Salem, currently serving as an assistant public defender for Forsyth County.
Granite Quarry reunion
The class of 1942 of Granite Quarry High School met ept. 20 at Southside Baptist Church fellowship building.
Grover Miller, president, welcomed the members and guests. Darrell Williams was master of ceremonies, and showed a video of the 50th class reunion and also a video of the Faith 4th of July parade when former president George Bush and his wife, Barbara, attended. Darrell also played a round of softball with President Bush at this event.A memorial was held for members, Harold Lingle, M. C. Fisher, Jr., Louise Troutman Stout, and spouses, Harry Corriher and Aaron Stout.

Out-of-town members were Darrell and Betty Williams of Gastonia and Juanita Foster Lesley of Cary.
Special guest was Heaven Rogers, granddaughter of Clara Rogers.

Sorority retreat
Delta Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. held its annual retreat Aug. 30 at the Holiday Inn, Salisbury.
Chapter members participated in strategic planning workshops focused on “The Economic Growth of the Black Family” and “Health Resource Management and Economics.” These are two of the sorority’s national program targets. The sorority plans to implement activities that address these targets in the Salisbury-Rowan community.
Workshop presenters were Lillian L. Morgan and Sherry Alexander.
Billie Cardwell-Winzor, author and poet, was the luncheon speaker. She shared excerpts from her book, “A Passion for Possibilities,” a compilation of inspirational poems that she has written over the years.
Cardwell-Winzor is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and lives in Richmond, Va.
Cecelia McCorkle was the retreat chairperson. Lovetta Ealy Moore is the chapter president.
Bridal luncheon
Haley Rochelle Shaw of Salisbury was honored with a bridal luncheon and shower on Aug. 2 at Caniche Tea Shop and Bake Room.
She is the daughter of Bill and Bonnie Shaw of Salisbury. Hostesses were her aunts Vicki Shaw Parks of Salisbury, Pam Shaw Basinger and her cousin Ashley Basinger Minton, both of Walton, Ky. Special guest was Haley’s great-aunt, Hilda Bass Palmer of Spencer.
Ms. Shaw received gifts of crystal and china in her chosen patterns.
She was married to Jarrett Wishon of Charlotte on Oct. 4 at First Presbyterian Church in Salisbury.
Lyerly reunion
Descendants of Walter Adolphus and Minnie Morgan Lyerly met on Sept. 29 at the Faith American Legion building for their annual reunion.
The Rodney Fulk family hosted a spaghetti supper for 42 family members.
Wesley Fulk, president, welcomed the group and presided over the business meeting. There was one death since the last reunion: Hazel Ritchie Lyerly on June 22, 2008; one birth, Ryan Payton Friel born Aug. 13, 2008 to Robert and Kristan Lyerly Friel; one marriage, Jon Anthony and Ingrid Uhlenhopp on Aug. 2, 2008.
Attending from out of town were Max and Deanie Webb of Madison and Dennis and Becky Anthony of Hickory.Officers for 2009 are Wes Fulk, president; Rodney Fulk, vice president; and Gaynelle Julian-Morgan, secretary-treasurer.
The reunion for 2009 will be on Sept. 26 with the C.C. Caskey Jr. family as hosts.

Fifteen members of the Classy Red Hats met for lunch at Sept. 19 at the Downtowner Restaurant. Sara Owen is queen mother.
