FLORHAM PARK, N.J. ó Brett Favre was listed as questionable Friday for the New York Jets’ game against Arizona with a sore left ankle but is expected to start against the Cardinals.
The 38-year-old quarterback twisted his left ankle Monday night in New York’s loss at San Diego. His ankle was tightly wrapped, but he appeared hardly hobbled during the half-hour of practice the media were allowed to watch Friday.
“I felt pretty comfortable a few days ago,” coach Eric Mangini said of Favre’s progress. “He hasn’t missed many games in the last however many years.”
Actually, Favre has started 256 consecutive regular-season games, an NFL record for quarterbacks, and neither he nor Mangini has seemed concerned the streak is in jeopardy.
– DENVER ó Denver Broncos Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway is engaged to a former Oakland Raiders cheerleader.
The Rocky Mountain News reported Friday that the two-time Super Bowl winner proposed to 41-year-old Paige Green during a trip to Italy last week.
GOLF
ATLANTA ó Anthony Kim and Sergio Garcia did enough Friday at the Tour Championship to set up a Ryder Cup rematch.
Kim had to settle for a 1-under 69 on Friday, making bogey from the bunker on the final hole, to take a two-shot lead over Sergio Garcia and put them in the final pairing just six days after their leadoff singles match at the Ryder Cup.
Kim won that match, 5 and 4, and the Americans followed him to victory at Valhalla.
– PRATTVILLE, Ala. ó Recharged after a month off, Lorena Ochoa shot her second straight 5-under 67 to move within a stroke of leader Janice Moodie halfway through the Navistar LPGA Classic.
– CARYó Bruce Fleisher, Dana Quigley, Eduardo Romero, Andy Bean, Don Pooley and Chip Beck shot 4-under 68s to share the first-round lead in the SAS Championship.

HOUSTON ó Houston Rockets forward and former Duke star Shane Battier will be sidelined up to four weeks and miss most of preseason because of an inflammation in his left foot.
– WASHINGTON ó Gilbert Arenas and the Washington Wizards were fined $15,000 apiece by the NBA on Friday after he ducked out of the team’s annual preseason media day, avoiding any discussion of his third left knee operation in 11/2 years.
A&T DEATH
GREENSBORO ó An autopsy report says a North Carolina A&T football player who collapsed during a team workout in May died from complications of a heat stroke.
The autopsy released Friday said 22-year-old Chad Wiley was at greater risk for heat stroke because of his sickle cell trait. Wiley would have been a fifth-year senior on the Aggies team.
