With Salisbury playing a man down for 60 minutes and with its forwards shut down by Lexington, Daman Bowman and Sam Garner produced spectacular individual goals in a 2-0 CCC victory on Wednesday.
Bowman brought a ball down with his chest and connected from 30 yards out, a top-spin hummer that found the upper left corner of the net.
Garner went airborne to take a rebound off a Lexington player and sent a rocket through a pack of defenders for the second goal.
Garner, Bowman, Alex Hunter, Connor Miller and Dustin Presnell led the SHS defense. Keeper Frankie Cardelle, nursing a right groin injury, was limited to his left foot but turned in a brilliant outing.
Salisbury coach Tom Sexton said Lexington was exceptionally fast and a vastly improved team.
“A man down, we had to reorganize, and it was one of the hardest-earned victories we’ve ever had with two of the more dramatic goals we’ve ever scored,” he said.
n In the NPC, West Rowan got two goals each from Oscar Cabrera and Bradys Zuringa to beat South Rowan 6-3 on Wednesday. Matt Turchin and Sharif Behrooz scored a goal apiece for the Falcons.
– Prep tennis
Carson swept doubles and pulled out a 5-4 win against West Rowan on Wednesday.
The doubles pairings of Courtney Cress-Carol Brown, Keila Marlin-Jada Holloway and Kaitlyn Craft-Rena Ogle won for Carson (2-3 NPC). The second-seeded tandem of Marlin-Holloway edged Madison Rusher-Maggie Daniel by an 8-6 score.
Cress and Brown claimed singles wins at the top two spots.
Rusher, Daniel, Ellen Watts and Tyler March won singles matches for West (1-3 NPC). Rusher and Watts won third-set tiebreakers by identical 12-10 scores.
* East Rowan remained unbeaten in NPC play with a 9-0 victory against South Rowan on Wednesday.
Emilee Smith, Hannah Kovach, Brittany Honeycutt, Emily Beck, Caitlyn Fry and Devan Corpening won singles matches for the Mustangs (3-0 NPC). Smith-Megan Bullins, Honeycutt-Beck and Fry-Corpening were victorious in doubles.
East will play host to Mooresville today. The Blue Devils lost their first NPC match Wednesday, falling 7-2 to league favorite Lake Norman.
* Salisbury didn’t lose a singles game in its 9-0 victory against East Davidson on Wednesday.
Hannah Lebowitz, Kirstin Meyerhoeffer, Brooke Johnson, Shea Comadoll, Joy Loeblein and Erika Nelson all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the Hornets (11-1, 8-0 CCC).
In doubles, the tandems of Sierra Davis-Dzenita Sukurica, Sarah Truemper-Sun Dragas and Mary Margaret Mills-Sarah Shirley won.

– Prep volleyball
First-place North Iredell swept South Rowan 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 in an NPC match on Tuesday.
Molly Garrett served for 10 points while Taylor Smith had nine for the Raiders.
Krista Haywood had 16 assists. Taylor May had eight kills. Kayla Morrow had six kills.
South’s jayvees lost 25-7, 25-16.
* Statesville beat East Rowan 25-14, 25-19, 25-8 in an NPC match on Tuesday.
Haili Everhart served for 10 points and had 13 digs, three saves and two kills for East. Shanunda Carroll had three kills and served for seven points. Haley Barrier and Mallory Drew had strong matches.
East’s jayvees beat the Hounds 25-14, 25-20.
* Barrier had seven kills while Everhart served for 16 points as East beat North Rowan on Monday.
– Prep cross country
Salisbury’s girls won a meet with its toughest CCC competition, Central Davidson, as well as Ledford and Providence Grove on Wednesday.
Sophomore Margaret Kaufmann improved her time to give the team an extra push. Katelyn Horning returned from speed skating. Katherine Shields and Emily Shields finished first and second, respectively, and Jenna Bryan was sixth. Senior leadership from Laurel Loeblein kept the team motivated.

– Catawba athletics
Paige Harrington’s late goal lifted Catawba’s women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Chowan on Wednesday. Erinn Wescoat also scored for the Indians (5-1).
* Catawba’s men’s soccer team won 4-1 at Chowan on Wednesday. Tim Finotti, Chad Villiard, Kyle Ganow and Dustin Johnson scored for the Indians (2-4).
* Catawba’s field hockey team(2-5) used goals by Dana Dolbow and Susan Hearn to defeat Roanoke 2-0 at Frock Field on Wednesday.
* Catawba’s women’s golf team finished 11th in the rain-shortened Lady Falcon tournament at Old North State Club.
Kelsey Babos led Catawba for the second straight tournament, shooting 83.
– Pfeiffer athletics
Pfeiffer’s volleyball team swept J.C. Smith in 58 minutes.
