GRANITE QUARRY ó East Rowan junior Thomas Lowe rushed for 124 yards in a 34-21 loss to West Iredell on Friday.
It will be his last Friday night of the season.
East coach Brian Hinson confirmed on Tuesday that his star back has been dismissed from the team.
Hinson wouldn’t go into detail, only saying, “He is no longer with us.”
Lowe had three straight 100-yard efforts this season after putting up nine in 12 outings last season.
“He is a student of the school and we cannot divulge private information,” Hinson said. “So my comment is, ‘No coment.’ ”
Hinson did say he was moving Quentin Sifford and Ben DeCelle to Lowe’s tailback spot.
“DeCelle is a jack of all trades,” Hinson said.
Lowe has rushed for 2,174 yards in his 15-game career and he could have passed East assistant principal Rick Vanhoy’s career total in Friday’s game at Carson. Vanhoy rushed for 2,311 yards for the Mustangs from 1973-75.
The others ahead of Lowe on East’s all-time list are record-holder Cal Hayes Jr. (2,698), Vanhoy’s backfield mate Randy Fowler (2,485) and Joseph Patterson (2,365).
