Paul Kollie scored three goals and Salisbury won its third game in the CCC with a 5-0 victory against West Davidson on Monday.
The Hornets (3-4, 3-0) remained unbeaten in their conference by beating a West Davidson team that came in undefeated and ranked No. 12 in 2A.
Kollie opened the scoring on a breakaway 20 minutes into the match, and Daman Bowman added a goal on a cross from Victor Nyae. Kollie scored his second goal on a long pass from Randy Almeida 12 minutes into the second half, then scored again on a pass from freshman Kenny Bonilla.
“We’re starting to find ourselves,” Salisbury coach Tom Sexton said. “The scoring punch is back. I knew somebody was gonna fill in right away, and that kid is Paul Kollie.”
Another Hornet helped too, as senior Ryne Maddox scored the final goal.
Maddox entered the game with three minutes remaining, got the ball on the left side, cut left to beat one defender, went right to get past another and placed a shot just inside the right post from 15 yards out.
“This was a text-book goal,” Sexton said.

Salisbury’s girls tennis team won 8-1 against Central Davidson in a CCC match Monday.
Hannah Lebowitz, Kirstin Meyerhoeffer, Shea Comadoll, Joy Loeblein and Erika Nelson won singles matches for the Hornets (10-1, 7-0 CCC).
Comadoll-Loeblein, Brooke Johnson-Nelson and Sierra Davis-Dzenita Sukurica won in doubles.
* In the NPC, West Rowan defeated West Iredell 9-0.
Sarah Teel, Katie Ritchie, Madison Rusher, Maggie Daniel, Ellen Watts and Tyler March registered singles wins for the Falcons. Rusher-Daniel added a doubles victory, and the Falcons collected two forfeits.
– Prep golf
Salisbury’s girls golf team won a tight match at Warrior on Monday. The Hornets and Charlotte Country Day tied for first at 123, so a fourth individual score was used as a tiebreaker.
Salisbury, which is 11-0 this season, won because its fourth-best score was a 46. Country Day’s Garland Neal had a 50.
Allison Lee and Catherine Parks shot 39s for Salisbury, and Lily Yatawara had a 45. Madison Kennedy and Amber Lyerly had 46s, and Lauren Martz shot a 56.
Country Day’s Laura Wearn was the medalist with a 34. Laura Binkowski (42) and Liz Hill (47) had the other scores.
East Davidson’s team had a 158, and Ledford posted a 165.
* West Rowan and East Rowan tied for third place in a nine-hole NPC girls golf match in Statesville.
Lake Norman, led by medalist Haley Hammond’s 37, won with a 129 total. Statesville was next at 142. West, led by Katie Knepp’s 44, and East, led by Samantha Haviland’s 46, were at 147 in the team standings.
Mooresville took fifth, and South Rowan placed sixth. Desirae Overcash had a 49 to lead the Raiders.
– Catawba athletics
Catawba’s women’s soccer team defeated Milligan 2-0 at Frock Field on Monday.
Catawba (4-1) fought to a scoreless tie at halftime and got second-half goals from Nikki Blackwelder and Paige Harrington.
Keeper Sarah Mosier was credited with the shutout. Catawba outshot Milligan 21-2.
– SAC football
Tusculum quarterback Corey Russell, Newberry linebacker Will Newell and Tusculum punter John Gregory were named SAC players of the week.
Russell threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns in a 32-30 win against Elizabeth City State.
Newell wore No. 46 instead of his usual No. 45 on Saturday to honor his older brother, John, who passed away last week. Newell made 14 solo tackles and had two sacks in a 41-3 victory against North Greenville. He had 13 tackles at halftime and made two more hits in the first series of the second half.
Gregory averaged 46.8 yards per punt and pinned the Vikings inside their 5-yard line on three occasions.
* Greensboro College’s Cal Bacon (A.L. Brown) rushed 17 times for 40 yards and had a 19-yard reception in a 14-12 victory against Emory & Henry on Saturday.
– College golf
Lauren Smith (Salisbury) shot 82-79 ó 161 for UNC Greensboro in the first two rounds of the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
– Pfeiffer athletics
Pfeiffer’s men’s soccer team beat Mount Olive 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play, while the Pfeiffer women topped Mount Olive 3-1.n – Middle school tennis
Sacred Heart remained unbeaten with a 9-0 victory over South Davie on Monday.
Katelyn Storey, Anna Page, Kelly Dulkoski, Jordan Pring, Lauren Gray, and Jordan DeJaco claimed singles wins for the Dolphins (3-0).
Helen Nguyen-Lauren Roy, Meghan Hedgepeth-Erin Roy and Jessica Roy-Anna Tonseth won in doubles.
– Sacred Heart jayvee soccer
Sacred Heart’s jayvee soccer team beat Statesville Montessori 7-2.
Fidel Flores led the Dolphins with five goals. Max Fisher and Erin Ansboro added a goal each.
Sacred Heart defeated Phoenix Montessori 9-1.
Erin Ansboro scored three goals while Flores, Chandler Blackwell, Iris Bonilla, Matthew Chilton, Reilly Gokey, Kate Sullivan and Fidel Flores all scored a goal each.
Christian Hester and Max Fisher starred in goal in both games.
– GARS
Fifty-two GARS members played at Lexington Country Club on Monday.
Low ‘A’ flight player was Jay Boyce with a net of 60.71.
Low ‘B’ flight player was Ben Moore with a net of 64.96.
Low ‘C’ player was Red Castor with a net of 63.47.
Low ‘D’ player was Ron Bankett with a net of 68.56.
– North host for 5K

– Cystic Fibrosis golf event
The second annual “Saving Grace” Cystic Fibrosis Golf Tournament will be held at Corbin Hills on Oct. 25 at 1:30 pm.
Team “Saving Grace” was established in honor of 6-year-old Grace Hodge, who is one of 15 children in Rowan County that suffers from CF.
