GREENVILLE ó East Carolina is being fined $10,000 after football fans charged the field to celebrate the Pirates’ upset of West Virginia last weekend.
Conference USA said Friday the university also is subject to a possible suspension of future hosting privileges.
The conference said the school violated a policy adopted in June that prohibits public access to competition areas until the visiting team and officials are in the locker rooms.
Saturday fans ran onto the field following the Pirates’ 24-3 win over the then-No. 8 Mountaineers. The win propelled the Pirates to No. 14 nationally, their first appearance in the Top 25 since 1999.
