Hunter Smith
Hunter Smith, a student at Iron Dragon Tae Kwon Do Academy in Salisbury, attended “The Battle of Atlanta” in Atlanta on Aug. 2.
This was one of three major Tae Kwon Do tournaments on the East Coast. Hunter was the only student from his school to attend.
Hunter placed first in his division of intermediate sparring.
Hunter, 7, is the son of Lynn and Mandy Smith of Salisbury. He is a second-grader at Morgan Elementary School.
Ribelin Reunion
The 26th annual Ribelin reunion was held at Union Lutheran Church on Aug. 16 with a picnic lunch.
Ann Tucker presided over the business section. Thurmond Ribelin received the prize for the oldest person present. The youngest representative was Makayla Janet Cauble, daughter of Jeff and Deatrice Cauble. Austin Ribelin traveled the greatest distance, from Greensboro.
Officers elected for the next two years were Heather Ribelin, president; Norman Ribelin, president-elect; and Ann Tucker, secretary/treasurer.
Next year’s reunion will be on Aug. 16 at the same location.
Faithful Friends event
Carolina Lily hosted a Lunch and Pooch Parade on Aug. 9 to benefit Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary.
Winner of the best kisser contest was Cooper Holshouser, a Westie, owned by Linda Holshouser.
Best costume was Molly Rabon, a greyhound in a tutu. Her owner is Betsy Rabon.
Most unusual parade entry was baby Isabelle Goodman, accompanied by her dog, Little Belle, a chihuahua. Isabelle’s parents are Charles and Jodi Goodman.
Linda Shapleigh and Katey, her Maltese, won the owner/dog lookalike contest.
Sue Wortman’s standard poodles, Dante and Maddie, were judged most handsome dogs.
Bags and bags of dog food were donated, along with leashes, and the event raised $900 for Faithful Friends.
