Plaza best place for street dance
I’ve lived in Spencer for 63 years, in my Mama’s and Daddy’s old rundown homeplace, but it beats the heck out of being homeless.
I’m not writing to talk about my home. I think some of the rich people that bought Park Plaza ought to let us have our street dances back over there.
My complaining will probably fall on deaf ears, but I think the system stinks, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.
I always looked forward to the the dances at the end of August. I could walk up the street. It’s just a skip and a jump from my house. I really had some good times, seeing people I haven’t seen in a long time. We never met a stranger.
It’s too crowded on Fifth Street (where the dances have been held), and a lot of people who used to come don’t show up now. I remember the good old days, when there was a big park, and I went to circuses there. We had Wink’s out here, a chicken and oyster shack, a skating rink … I know nothing stays the same, but it’s my home. I have a choice to either go to Fifth Street, where it’s crowded, or stay at home. The choice is mine.

A bluesy evening
Many thanks to the East Square Artists for hosting the first Rowan Blues and Jazz warm-up fundraiser. Thursday evening (Aug. 14), a nice crowd of friends and lovers of the raw tones of the blues came out to listen and enjoy the music and the company of like-minded “Rowanians.” We were surrounded by the art work of our hosts, great desserts and beverages. Thanks for those who donated food, beverages, time and energy to this event.

Sound rebuttal
Thank you, David Treme, for your excellent response and rebuttal (Aug. 14 Post) to the Charlotte Observer’s irresponsible and ill-informed editorial criticizing Salisbury Fire Chief Bob Parnell.
