GREENSBORO (AP) ó The son of North Carolina State basketball coach Sidney Lowe plans to plead guilty to a dozen charges connected to a March 2007 home invasion, his attorney said Monday.
Sidney Lowe II, 23, will plead guilty this afternoon to six counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping, Greensboro attorney Locke Clifford said. Clifford said Lowe II is likely to be sentenced during the hearing.
The senior Lowe declined to comment, a school spokesman said.
Lowe II also plans to enter an Alford plea on a charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with a shooting at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro a week after the home invasion, Clifford said. He does not admit guilt by entering that plea, but acknowledges there may be enough evidence to convict him.
Clifford declined to further discuss the case until the hearing.
Police initially charged Lowe II with nine criminal counts in connection with the campus shooting, including several for possession of a weapon, drugs and stolen property. Brian Martin, 20, also faces charges in both cases and will appear in court Monday.
Authorities have said that Lowe II and Martin were trying to steal cash and marijuana from a student in his dormitory when the shooting occurred.
