COLLEGE FOOTBALL
COLUMBUS, Ohio ó Ohio State’s backup quarterback Antonio Henton is expected to transfer to Georgia Southern, according to a newspaper report.
The move is to happen soon, several sources close to the team told The Columbus Dispatch for a Thursday report on its Web site.
Georgia Southern’s offensive coordinator Rance Gillespie was Henton’s coach at Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Ga.
Henton, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound redshirt sophomore, has been battling redshirt freshman Joe Bauserman for the No. 1 backup spot behind senior starter Todd Boeckman. Incoming freshman Terrelle Pryor is also expected to be in the running for the top backup spot.
RAYCOM
CHARLOTTEó Raycom Sports is hoping to capitalize on sports fans’ growing multitasking.
The syndicator has announced a partnership with Jacked SportsTop that will begin during telecasts of ACC and SEC football games this fall and continue during basketball season.
The Jacked SportsTop is an Internet application that allows fans to download a device on their computers that provides statistics, videos, photos, news and other interactive features, including live chats with other fans.
NBA
NEW YORK ó The NBA is so angry at disgraced referee Tim Donaghy that it wants him to reimburse the league for the cost of his basketball shoes.
The NBA said in a court filing it spent $750 over three seasons to buy sneakers for Donaghy, who pleaded guilty last year to taking payoffs from gamblers.
Now, the league wants its money back. It also wants a court to force the referee to repay his salary, his airfare expenses and meal allowances, and cough up at least $4,500 for complimentary tickets he received over the years. All told, the league is seeking $1.4 million from Donaghy.
IRL
NEWTON, Iowa ó IndyCar Series points leader Scott Dixon did his best to be polite. Though Dixon earned the pole for Sunday’s Iowa Corn Indy 250 because rain washed out qualifying, he tried to explain that he’d rather win the top spot on the track rather than by default.
That’s when Helio Castroneves chimed in.
“You want to switch?” Castroneves said. “No problem with me.”
Dixon will start out on the pole for the fourth time in five starts.
