Piedmont Dance Theatre’s “Dancing Under the Stars” returns to Kannapolis Saturday, June 14. This will be the fifth annual outdoor summer concert to be performed by PDT in the Village Park Amphitheatre.
Professional and student dancers will perform a full-length version of George Balanchine’s “Who Cares?”
This concert marks the world premier of up-and-coming professional choreographer Thang Dao.
This performance features the Piedmont Dance Theatre youth ensemble, ages 13 to 17. In addition to the student ensemble, the directors of PDT have arranged for 16 professional dancers to appear from New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, Phantom of the Opera, Sacramento Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, The Jose Limon Company, North Carolina Dance Theatre, and Nashville Ballet. These professional dancers will perform alongside the company’s youth ensemble.
“Dancing Under the Stars” also offers a series of duets featuring classical, contemporary and modern dance styles, Cogli las Rosa by Sasha James, and Canvas no. 2 created by artistic directors Daniel and Rebecca Wiley.
PDT has continued to gain recognition with its annual Nutcracker and free public performances.
In December, PDT joined forces with the Salisbury Symphony and sold out Catawba College’s Keppel Auditorium for the first time ever. This was also the first time in the symphony’s 41 year history to sell out a performance ó much less two in one day.
The June 14 concert begins at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
