Kannapolis belted five home runs and beat Statesville 17-16 in American Legion play Tuesday.
Alex Edwards, Hunter Pate, Andrew Lawing, Daniel Welch and Jason Brown all homered for Kannapolis, which will play host to South Rowan tonight in a non-league game.nMocksville won 6-1 against Wilkes behind the pitching of Jake Koontz, who had a perfect game through six innings. Koontz (2-0) allowed one hit while striking out seven batters in eight innings. One run crossed against him on a wild pitch.
Chris Kinard (2-for-4, one double, one RBI) and Justin Kidd (2-for-5, one RBI) led a 10-hit attack.
– College baseball
North Carolina’s Kyle Seager (NW Cabarrus), Dustin Ackley, Tim Fedroff and Alex White were named to Collegiate Baseball’s Louisville Slugger All-America team. Fedroff was named to the second team. Ackley, Seager and White are on the third team.
– Minor leagues
Zach Ward (A.L. Brown) had scoreless relief outings for New Britain on Friday and Sunday.
* Toledo right-hander Jeremy Johnson (Mooresville) has a 4-2 record but was placed on the disabled list on May 30 with a strained elbow.
– West meeting
West Rowan basketball coach Mike Gurley will hold a one-hour parent-player meeting on Thursday, June 12 at 6 p.m. in the school lobby.
The meeting will cover the requirements and expectations if a student wishes to play for the Falcons, summer and offseason plans. For more information, call Mike Gurley at 704-798-2074.
– West hoops camp
West Rowan Falcon Basketball Camp for boys and girls will be held June 16-19.
West Rowan boys coach Mike Gurley directs the camp at the school. West players will help with the camp.
Campers will take home a Falcon T-shirt, in addition to top-flight instruction.
The cost is $50.
Camp is for rising 2nd-9th graders and rising 7th-9th graders run at the same time รณ from 9 a.m. until noon each day.

– Myers golf event
The 14th annual Adam Myers Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at McCanless on June 14 at 9 a.m.
Godstock and Thrivent Financial put on the tournament to keep alive the memory of Adam Myers, who died at age 2 of leukemia at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Proceeds pay for items for children who are cancer patients at Baptist Hospital.
Entry fee is $40 per person or $160 per team.
Individual and corporate sponsorships are available.

– West golf tourney
The West Rowan FFA Alumni Association is hosting a Captain’s Choice golf tournament at Rolling Hills
Entry fees are $200 per four-person team.
– South Men of Summer
The South Rowan coaching staff invites all young men who are interested in playing football this fall at South to join the Men of Summer program.
The program runs from 7-10 a.m. Monday-Thursday and will start its first session on June 16.
All players need to be at the fieldhouse by 6:50 a.m. The first official day of football practice is Aug. 1. P

– South football camp
The South Rowan coaching staff is inviting children from kindergarten through fifth grade to its third annual Raider Football Camp.
The camp will be held at Donnell Stadium on June 14 from 9 a.m. until noon.
Lunch will be provided.

– East baseball camp
East Rowan baseball coach Brian Hightower will hold his annual camp at Staton Field on June 23-27.
The camp is for ages 7-14 and will be held from 9-2 Monday-Thursday and 9-noon on Friday.
The cost is $110 and includes a videotape of the player, a written evaluation and camp T-shirt.
Competition events for prizes will be part of the popular camp.

– Scooter Sherrill camp
The inaugural Scooter Sherrill basketball skills camp will be held July 21-24 at Carson High School.
The camp, which is for boys and girls who will be in grades 6-through-12 next school year, runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. It will include fundamental basketball skills and drills to focus on the individual improvement of each camper.
