Campbell basketball player Maggie Rich (East Rowan) was honored with the Easley Senior GPA Award at Campbell’s athletic awards ceremony on Thursday.
Rich earned a 3.6 GPA in education, the top academic performance among all graduating Campbell student-athletes.
Rich started 27 games for the Camels as a senior and averaged 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds. She added 44 assists and made the all-tournament team at the Longwood Invitational.
Rich, East’s all-time scoring leader with 1,917 points.

n Hall of Fame golf
The team of Jim McDuffie, Dr. Norm Bean, Hugh Tilller and Dave Ballard won the Catawba College Hall of Fame golf tournament at the Country Club of Salisbury on Friday.
The group posted a sizzling 15-under 56 to capture a tourney that had 18 foursomes.
The winners birdied eight of nine holes on the front side and had an eagle on the back nine to take honors. They competed in the first flight.
The team of Steve Furr, John Murphy, Chris Sifford and Ken Crouch was second in the first flight with a 61.
The team of Chris Rae, Bob Lancaster, Tracy Helms and Joe Oxendine won the second flight with a 62.
Ginger Hamric, Littie Wilkes, Joey Crissman and Joseph Crissman won the third flight with a 60.
Taking the fourth flight with a 61 were David Kirkland, Jeff Hartley, Jason Hartley and Tim Hawley.
Hugh Tiller had the longest drive.
Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will be held this afternoon at Catawba.
n Salisbury soccer
Salisbury’s soccer team was defeated by Gastonia Ashbrook 2-1 on Friday.
The Hornets’ score was by Lindsey Davis on an assist from Kaitlyn Cuevas, who added to her career assist record. It was her 67th.
Salisbury (14-2) finishes the regular season at North Rowan on Monday. The CCC champions will receive a bye in the first round of the state playoffs.
n Prep softball
West Rowan handed East Rowan its first NPC loss with a 3-0 shutout at West on Friday.
Sabrina Stephens pitched for the Falcons. Erin Foster and Brooke Taylor got the Falcons off to a fast start.
n North Rowan got a hit apiece from Lindsay Thompson, Brie Kirkpatrick, Kristen Harmon and Shelby Gegorek in a five-inning, 11-0 victory against rival Salisbury on Friday.
Kristin Holshouser pitched for the Cavaliers and struck out six batters while walking none. North, which picked up its second victory of the season, plays Salisbury again Monday in a make-up game.
“We’re in a rebuilding process,” North coach Ruby Cutshaw said. “We’re finally starting to click a little bit.”
n Prep baseball
A.L. Brown beat Hickory Ridge 5-2 for an SPC victory on Friday.
Brown scored two runs without a hit in the first inning.
The Wonders scored three in the fourth to pull it out.
Jacob Wright pitched a complete game, struck out 10 and allowed two hits.
n Chaz Frank pitched a one-hitter as Central Davidson beat Lexington 7-0 for a CCC victory.
Tanner Rivas homered for the Spartans.
n West Davidson rallied for three runs in the seventh inning and beat East Davidson 7-5 in a CCC game.
Chris Ivey hit a three-run homer for the Green Dragons.
n Josh Clark drove in the tying run and Will Feimster knocked in the winning run as West Iredell rallied in the bottom of the seventh to beat Northwest Cabarrus 9-8 in NPC action.
n Ian Walters pitched Mooresville to an 11-1 victory over Statesville.
n Davie County lost to Mount Tabor 4-3 on Bradley Morton’s walkoff homer.
Zach Russell-Myers took the loss. Mat Batts pitched for the Spartans.
n College baseball
Appalachian State closer Garrett Sherrill (A.L. Brown) pitched two scoreles innings to finish off a 10-5 victory over Davidson on Friday.
n Minor leagues
New Britain’s Zach Ward (A.L. Brown) made his eighth straight relief appearance without allowing an earned run on Thursday. He worked a scoreless eighth inning in a 2-1 loss to Trenton.
n Lancaster pitcher Jaymie Russ (NW Cabarrus) started and took the loss in a 5-1 setback to Modesto on Thursday. Russ (0-2) allowed three runs in three innings.
n Intimidators fall
The Kannapolis Intimidators dropped a 7-5 decision to Lake County in the second game of a four-game series at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Friday.
The Intimidators left the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
Logan Johnson homered for Kannapolis in the seventh.
There will be fireworks tonight.
n Kannapolis Legion
The Kannapolis American Legion program will hold an important parents meeting today at 10 a.m. at the VFW on North Cannon Boulevard.
n South Legion
South Rowan American Legion baseball will hold sign-ups for Senior and Junior Legion players on Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at the South Rowan baseball field. Players will need a birth certificate with a raised seal, insurance information, and a parent or legal guardian will need to sign permission slips.
Senior Legion baseball is for any player born on or after Jan 1, 1989, while Junior Legion baseball is for players born on or after Jan. 1, 1991.

n Hundley golf
The North Rowan Booster Club is sponsoring the 6th annual Bob Hundley Golf Tournament at Corbin Hills on May 3.
The format is Captain’s Choice. Shotgun start at 2 p.m.
Lunch and putting contest are at 12:30 p.m.
A few spots are left for golfers at $40 or teams at $160.
Hole sponsorships are available at $100 (bronze), $200 (silver) and $300 (gold).

n West Rowan golf
The West Rowan basketball team is sponsoring a Captain’s Choice golf tournament at Foxwood on Saturday, May 17.
The fee is $35 per player for the 1 p.m. shotgun start. There will be prizes, mulligans and tee-busters.

n Middle school golf
Erwin golfers defeated Sacred Heart 164-203 at Rolling Hills.
Jared Hough shot 1-over 37 to lead the Eagles. Connor Lowman (41), James Lohr (42) and Jared Devlieger (44) scored for the Eagles.
Eric Edwards led Sacred Heart with a 39. Michael Strobel (50), Spencer Storey (54) and Rafe Harrison (60) scored for the Dolphins.
The Erwin golfers are back in action Monday at McCanless against Southeast.
n In a girls match, Sacred Heart defeated Erwin/Southeast 226-239.
Kelly Dulkoski shot 51 to lead the Dolphins. Jordan Pring (55), Allana Ansbro (60) and Anna Tonseth (60) were other scorers. Southeast’s Savannah Ware shot 59. Erwin’s Hannah Pressley and Southeast’s Katie Smith and Stephanie Pyle shot 60s.
n Kannapolis hoops camp
A.L. Brown basketball camp dates are June 16-19, July 7-10 and July 28-31.
Camp runs from 9-1 each day at Kannapolis Middle School.
Cost is $55 for each week.

n Carson football camp
Carson Youth Football Camp for grades 3-8 will be held May 12-15 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Carson head coach Mark Woody and his staff will conduct the camp, along with guest coaches from Southeast and China Grove. This is a non-contact camp designed to work on position skill development and fundamentals and conditioning. Cost is $35 for players who register early รณ before May 1.
Cost is $40 for registration from 3-4:30 p.m. on the first day of camp

Kurt Green scored six goals and had four assists to lead Catawba (7-7) to a 20-11 win over Lees-McRae on Thursday.
