Craig Schmitt of Salisbury has been named to the IBSi board of directors.
IBSi of Winston-Salem is a sales resource organization for independent insurance brokers and agents, specializing in group ancillary products.
Schmitt is also a shareholder and president of UNITEC, a Winston-Salem-based business-to-business service and consulting firm.
Blast-It-All expanding
Blast-It-All, 185 Piper Lane, is expanding with the addition of a 6,000-square-foot storage building, according to Tom Hess, president.
The company manufactures abrasive blast equipment and distributes other types of metal finishing equipment throughout the United States and in Canada.
The Salisbury facility employs 32. The company also has storage warehouses with remote offices in Roanoke, Va., Spartanburg, S.C., and Goldsboro.
Pharmacy tech course
Rowan-Cabarrus Commu-nity College will offer a pharmacy technician training course March 11-July 3.
The class will meet 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Building 100, Room 100, on the Salisbury campus. Cost is $65, with text books costing approximately $150.
Students must have a high school diploma or GED and complete a career readiness assessment at the college no later than March 1.
The course trains students to work as assistants to a licensed pharmacist in both retail and hospital settings. Students learn pharmaceutical and medical terminology, abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting medications, a working knowledge of the drug trade and generic names, as well as strengths, dosages, dosage forms and methods of administration.

CPA exam completed
Julie Anne Lackey of Salisbury and Lee-Jane Wu Sun of Mooresville were among the 121 candidates successfully completing the Uniform CPA Examination, according to the N.C. State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners.
Successful candidates must now meet education, work experience and moral character requirements to become licensed as CPAs in the state.
Interior design booth
Anne Simpkins of Favorites in Spencer has been chosen to chair the Charlotte Chapter Interior Design Society booth at the Southern Spring Show at the Charlotte Merchandise Mart Wednesday through Sunday.
The 2008 IDS Designers Marketplace will be a feature at this year’s show. The theme, Rework, Renew, and Reuse, parallels the Shades of Green show theme. Designers will sell leftovers from design projects that can have a new life. Furniture, antiques, accessories, fabrics, tablecloths, throws, candleholders, vases and pillows will be displayed.
The Concord Women’s Auxiliary of the Salvation Army has been chosen as the chapter’s charity this year . Unsold items go to the Salvation Army Thrift Shop.

Hall of Fame award
Karen Courtney of Rockwell has been presented the Re/Max Hall of Fame Award, which honors successful agents who have earned more than $1 million in commissions during their careers with the company.
Courtney is with the Courtney Group with Re/Max Leading Edge in Concord. She has worked in the real estate industry for more than nine years, five with Re/Max. She is licensed in North and South Carolina.
She is also a member of the Re/Max Platinum Club.
Healthy heart events
Contours Express of Salisbury, a women’s fitness franchise at 331 Faith Road, is celebrating American Heart Month with events throughout February to educate women on the importance of heart health and how heart disease can affect their lives.
“Many women take their heart health for granted, and we’re dedicated to helping them understand the threat of heart disease,” said owner Kathy Primavera.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer among women n one in every two women may die from the disease, while one in every 30 women may die from breast cancer.

The Great American Publishing Co. has acquired Your Home in Kannapolis Magazine, formerly of Nash Publishing Group.
Great American publishes the Rowan Homebuyer’s Guide, Centralina Homebuyer’s Guide, Senior Savvy and Out & About magazines.
“Your Home in Kannapolis is designed to welcome the incoming biotech industry by supplying vital editorial information for moving them and their families to the Kannapolis area,” says Cindy Hart, publisher/owner. “It’s also a perfect chance for local businesses to introduce and market their goods and services to these folks.”
