Rowan County’s Junior American Legion team beat South Rowan 8-4 on Wednesday.
Russell Michalec was the winning pitcher and had the key hit with a two-run double in the sixth.
Ethan Fisher and Hernan Bautista had run-scoring hits for Rowan (11-3).
n Rowan beat Concord 3-0 behind pitcher Zach Simpson on Tuesday.
Thomas Allen earned a save after Simpson pitched six strong innings.
Austin Shull hit a home run.
n Steedley debuts
Spencer Steedley (East Rowan, Charlotte) made his pro debut on Wednesday, pitching a scoreless inning as the Elizabethton Twins pounded Kingsport 15-1.
n Parnell on the hill
Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) will start for the Double-A Binghamton Mets tonight against Reading.
Parnell is 0-0 with a 3.27 ERA since being promoted to the Double-A ranks.
n Sherrill shines
Garrett Sherrill (A.L. Brown, Appalachian State) has been close to flawless in two relief outings in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Sherrill has pitched five scoreless innings while striking out seven. He’s allowed three hits and one walk.
n American Legion
Ryan Carter pitched six innings to lead Mocksville to a 9-4 victory over High Point on Wednesday. Carter allowed four hits and one run.
Zach Vogler, Brent Beam, Zach Howard and Seth Miller had two hits apiece for Mocksville (13-8).
n Rugby champs
Former East Rowan Y sports director Travis Bogle (West Rowan) and Ryan Brown (East Rowan) played on the Raleigh Vipers team that won the Division II USA Rugby Championships in San Diego.
Raleigh defeated Tulsa, Okla., and Red Mountain, Ariz.
Jeff Wilson (Salisbury) played previously with the Vipers.
