M. ‘Reece’ Black
Maurice Sherrill “Reece” Black, 78, 3005 N. Main St., died May 8, 2007, at Genesis Healthcare, Salisbury, after five years of serious illness.
Born Nov. 19, 1928, in Landis, Mrs. Black was a daughter of the late Avery and Florence Partee Sherrill.
A graduate of Aggrey Memorial High School, she was a homemaker.
A member of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, she was active with the Parent Body Missionary, Pastor’s Aide, Life’s Members Council, Stewardess Board 2, Usher Board, Home Mission Society, Victory Choir, Sunday school, Deaconess Board and a Girl Scout leader for 50 years.
Her husband, Houston Black, and daughter Delores Hunter preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Janet Allen, of the home, and Karen Black, Laurel, Md.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A service was held Saturday (May 12, 2007) at Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Anthony Freeman, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.
