Catawba graduates Lonnie Chandler and Garland Davis were inducted into the Stanly County Sports Hall of Fame on Monday.
Chandler made his mark as North Stanly High’s girls basketball coach for 33 seasons.
Davis set rebounding records for Catawba basketball teams in the 1960s that have never been topped.
Ceremonies were held at Stanly Regional Medical Family and Education Center.
Stanly Hall of Famers Bob Harris, the voice of Duke’s Blue Devils, and Woody Durham, voice of the North Carolina Tar Heels, made the introductions.
NASCAR’s Dale Jarrett was the keynote speaker.
A story on the induction of Davis and Chandler will be in the Post this week.
n Rowan Masters
Defending champion Keith Dorsett will face Garret Lowe, and medalist Richard Cobb will meet Andy Huffman in the opening round of the fifth annual Rowan Masters Golf Tournament at the Warrior on June 22.
Dorsett, who has won the tournament three times, drew the top seed.
Cobb, who edged Matt Ray for the qualifying medal after shooting a 1-under 71, is seeded second.
Two rounds will follow on June 23, and the semifinals and finals will be played June 24.

n Rowan Amateur golf
Qualifying will be held on July 6-8 at Corbin Hills for the 29th annual Horace Billings Rowan County Amateur golf tournament.
Entry fee of $15 does not include green or cart fees. Rowan residents or members of a Rowan golf club are eligible.
The low 31 qualifiers and defending champion Randy Bingham will advance to match play on July 13-15.
n Rowan Junior golf
The 22nd annual Rowan County Junior Golf Championship at Corbin Hills on July 11-12.
Residents of Rowan County or members of a Rowan golf club are eligible. Age divisions are 9-under, 10-11, 12-14 and 15-17.

n Collins in tournament
Salisbury’s Will Collins will play in the N.C. Amateur Championships held at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro on June 14-17.
n Myers golf tourney
The 13th annual Adam Myers Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at McCanless at 8 a.m. on June 16. The entry fee is $40 per player or $160 per team. Lunch is provided.
Since 1995, Godstock and Thrivent Financial have kept alive the memory of Myers, who was 21/2 years old when he died of leukemia. Proceeds will be used for items for children suffering from cancer at Baptist Hospital.

n McCanless Couples
The McCanless Couples played a nine-hole, two-man captain’s Choice format. Kevin Thompson and Jan Godwin took first place. Gene Seaford and Yvonne Barger finished second. Ronnie and Jinni Blythe were third.
n L-R Bears sign six
Lenoir-Rhyne has announced six men’s basketball recruits, including four from Fayetteville high schools.
The other two ó Albemarle’s D.J. Blackmon and Wakefield’s Marcus Hodges ó are transferring to Lenoir-Rhyne from Pfeiffer.
Blackmon, 6-foot-7, was an East-West All-Star and Stanly County Player of the Year.
n Intimidators no-hit
Former North Carolina standout Daniel Bard walked six but pitched a rain-shortened no-hitter as Greenville, a Red Sox farm club, beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 5-0 on Monday.
Rain stopped the game at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in the top of the seventh.
Jake Rasner took the loss for Kannapolis (28-36).
The teams play tonight at 7:05 p.m. at FCS.
n Junior Legion baseball
Rowan County’s Junior American Legion team beat South Rowan 12-4 on Monday in a game that included a 30-minute lightning delay.
Rowan’s eight-run third inning and good pitching by Zach Simpson keyed the victory.
Russell Michalec had a double and a triple for Rowan (9-2, 5-2). Hernan Bautista had two doubles, and Tyler King had a two-run double.
n Rowan beat Mooresville 6-3 on Saturday behind the pitching of Parker Gobble and Simpson.
Michalec’s three-run double broke a 3-3 tie.
n South was held to four hits and lost to Mocksville 12-1 in six innings on Sunday.
“We had no emotion and it’s going to make for a very long summer if we can’t find that emotion and play with it every game for seven innings,” South coach Daniel Pinyan said.
n Youth baseball
Hurley YMCA and West Rowan YMCA will have T-ball (ages 4-7) and Coach Pitch (6-9) leagues.
Registration ends June 18. Register at either Y.
Cost is $35 for Y members and $59 for non-members.
Price includes cap and shirt. Players provide their own gray pants.

n Faith Diamondbacks
The Faith Jaycee Diamondbacks used timely hitting and good defense to claim a runner-up finish in the USSSA 13-under Chair City Open in Thomasville.
Alex Bost pitched a complete game in the quarterfinals. Jared Mathis got a save with the bases loaded in the semifinals.
Other team members are Spencer Carmichael, Ryan Driver, Ethan Free, Chase Hathcock, Chase Johnson, Brandon Miller, Zach Miller, Alex Morgan, Kyle Venrick and Gavin Wike. The Diamondbacks are coached by David Miller and Tim Free.
n Baseball instruction
West Rowan High and South Rowan Legion head coach David Wright is giving individual summer lessons on pitching, hitting and defense.
