KANNAPOLIS ó Rose Hill Baptist Church invites everyone to “Service on the Lawn and Food for the Soul.”
This community outreach event will be held Sunday at the Village Park Amphitheater, located at the corner of West C Street and Dale Earnhardt Boulevard.
The service will be conducted on the lawn, beginning at 10 a.m. Bring your lawn chairs and wear your shorts and flip-flops. There will be singing, free food, family fun, games and give-aways to follow, beginning at noon.

Concert in park
KANNAPOLIS ó First Baptist Church continues its annual Concert in the Park series each Sunday night in June.
The free community concerts begin at 6 p.m. in Veterans Park, located beside the church at 101 N. Main St.
On Sunday, the Piedmont Singing Men will perform in concert. This all-male chorus is comprised of 40 singers from 20 different churches in the Concord/Kannapolis area. The program will include a variety of inspirational and patriotic selections.
Those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Haven Lutheran
Haven Lutheran Church will hold a Service of Healing during its worship service Sunday.
The Rev. Richard Graf of Concord, guest minister, will preach and will lead the Service of Healing. The morning will begin with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Service of Healing at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Erwin Temple
COOLEEMEE ó The members of Erwin Temple CME Church will celebrate the first pastoral anniversary of their pastor, the Rev. Ervin L. Hannah Jr., on Sunday.
Hannah will give the morning message, and the church’s Mass Choir will sing. Special honors and recognition will be given to the pastor and his family.
Lunch will be served in the fellowship dining area at 2 p.m.
Afternoon worship ó led by the Rev. Jamie Grant, pastor of Patterson Grove Faith Church in East Bend ó will begin at 3 p.m. Grant’s congregation will accompany him, and that church’s gospel choir will provide music.
Hannah and his family will be honored during the afternoon service by the Pastor’s Aide and members of the church.
New Hope Men’s Day
New Hope AME Zion Church, on North Long Street Extension, will host its annual Men’s Day observance Sunday during the 11 a.m. service.
The Rev. Retoy Gaston, New Hope’s pastor, will bring the message. The choir will be composed of men from the community.
Phyllis Partee will be the musician, and Melvin Rush will be the guest choir director.
Children’s day
CLEVELAND ó The Christian Education Department at Third Creek AME Zion Church will celebrate Children’s Day Sunday during the 11 a.m. worship service.
Faith Devenney, Bible teacher at Cleveland, Mount Ulla and Woodleaf elementary schools, will be the guest speaker. She holds degrees in Bible and Bible teaching from Columbia International University in Columbia, S.C., and has taught Bible history in western Rowan County for 10 years.
Lunch will be served following the service.

Lakeside baptism
High Rock Community Church, 7800 Bringle Ferry Road, will conduct a lakeside baptism service at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at High Rock Lake.

ROCKWELL ó God’s Tabernacle for Believers will host its annual Men’s Day program Sunday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. B.J. Melton, pastor of Boxwood Baptist Church, Mocksville. A guest choir will provide music.

Drama at Neel Road
Award-winning dramatist Sandra Gregory Wakefield will portray Queen Esther at 7 p.m. Sunday at Neel Road Baptist Church.
An accomplished performer, playwright, counselor and motivational speaker, Wakefield, the daughter of Rudy and Celeste Gregory, was once a resident of Salisbury. This is the second time she has shared one of her “Women of the Bible” monologues with the Neel Road Baptist congregation, previously appearing in the role of Mary, Jesus’ mother
Recognized nationally by such institutions as the Kennedy Center, which nominated her for an Irene Ryan Acting Ward, Sandra has made her mark in civic and cultural circles. She sang at the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, has won numerous honors for her contributions to drama, served as assistant director for the Miss Arizona Pageants, wrote for Tucson’s long-running passion play at the TCC Music Hall and volunteered her time as a counselor for the Christian Women’s Job Corps.
Her performance on Sunday night completes a special day in the life of Neel Road Baptist, where the Rev. Neil Westbrook will be installed as pastor on Sunday morning.

Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER ó Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St., will have its annual Men’s Conference today and Sunday.
Apostle Ray Taylor will speak at 7 tonight. Taylor is pastor of Outreach Christian Tabernacle in Salisbury.
Minister Vachaun G. Hash will speak at 6 p.m. Sunday. He is senior pastor and founder of The Temple of the Way Out Church in Roanoke, Va. He turned from a life of alcohol and drugs to become pastor of this church, one of the fastest growing in Virginia.
The pastor of Love Christian Center is Bishop Ronald Hash.
New Zion VBS
Vacation Bible School will be held at Salisbury’s New Zion Baptist Church Monday through Friday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly.
The theme is “God’s Wonderful World.” There will be classes for nursery-age children through adults. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children. Food will be served each evening. The Rev. Paul Jones is the host pastor.

HIGH POINT ó John Wesley Camp Meeting is scheduled for June 14-24 at the corner of Eastchester and Bridges streets in High Point.

First Calvary VBS
First Calvary Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School Monday through Friday for ages 4 to adult.
The Men’s Fellowship will host a free kickoff event today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities for the entire family will include pre-registration, a cookout and games.
Beginning Monday, Bible School activities will be carried out from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily and include a meal, assembly, classes, music and crafts.
The closing program will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. The theme is “Graduate to Greatness…The Jesus Way.”

Searching cosmos
On June 22, the Sojourners Sunday School Class at St. John’s Lutheran Church will explore the religious, social and philosophical implications of scientific research into the existence of other life in the cosmos.
The class will meet at 7 on that Friday night in The Center at St. John’s, 200 W. Innes St.
Scientist David Friday will speak about “Forty-five Years of SETI ó The Scientific Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.” He presents the decades-long scientific journey of former Cornell University astronomy professor and current director of the SETI Institute’s Center for the Study of Life in the Universe, Frank Drake.This presentation will detail the major serious searches undertaken to explore the galaxy for extraterrestrial life. Included will be a discussion of the famous “Drake Equation” for determining the likelihood that other civilizations exist in the galaxy and the results of this 45-year quest to discover life elsewhere in the cosmos.

VBS at Grace UMC
Grace United Methodist Church invites all children to become Sky Scouts at its upcoming Vacation Bible School.
“Lift Off! Soaring to New Heights with God” begins June 25 and ends June 28. Each night begins with a light supper at 5:45 p.m., and sessions will end at 8 p.m.
This program offers fun, interactive activities that combine the world of hot air ballooning with the discovery of how to reach new heights with God. Each lesson will be supported with Bible stories, science activities, songs, crafts, games and snacks. Parents are invited on the last night for a presentation by the youth.
