Symphony GuildThe Salisbury Symphony Guild held their second annual meeting and recognition reception May 10 at the Waterworks Visual Arts Center.
Officers for the coming year were elected: Debbie Elliott, president; Kathy Dunn, treasurer ; Carol Denhard, assistant treasurer; DJ Whitfield, recording secretary; BlancheGlover, corresponding secretary.
Fifty new members have joined the guild this year for a total membership of 203.
Kathy Dunn, treasurer, reported a successful financial year. The guild presented the Salisbury Symphony with $20,000.
Volunteers were recognized and thanked for their work. Barbara Norman, June Eschelman and DJ Whitfield were presented with Always Available awards. Past Presidents Who Never Quit awards were given to Betty Carli, Dottie Clement and Ashley Shoaf. Bob Prueshner, NancyStanback and Alice Stanback were recognized with the Special Friends of the Guild awards.
The top award, The Allegro Award, is given to a guild member who has unselfishly given much to help the guild over several years. The award is a lifetime membership in the Salisbury Symphony and was presented to Dr. Jean Owen in recognition of her many contributions.
Outgoing president Ann Meredith, who is known for her hats, received a shower of hats from guild members and a musical tribute by Foster and Jean Owen.
She was presented a gift from the guild in appreciation for her leadership over the past two years.
The gavel was passed to incoming President Debbie Elliott, who adjourned the meeting.
Class of 42
The Cleveland High School Class of 1942 held its 65th anniversary reunion the evening of May 5 at Blue Bay Restaurant.
Colonel John E. Gray, USA retired, class president, opened with a prayer for the longevity and blessings enjoyed by those present and for those now deceased.
Those present enjoyed a dinner of their choice and the camaraderie of catching up on happenings in one anothers lives since the last reunion.
Attending were Edith Cauble and her husband Herbert, Charlotte Dillon, Opal Gardner,Pauline Graham, John E. Gray and wife Sue, Bob Kluttz and wife Ruby, J.C. Leab and wife Marjorie, Mary Mowery, Doris Wells and NancyWood.Pageant participantsDanielle A. Spencer of Rockwell and Marissa Miaunna-Marie Farris of Salisbury were both recently selected to participate in the Nationals 2007 Charlotte pageant that will take place June 3. Spencer is competing for the Miss Pre-Teen title, and Farris is a competitor for the Miss Teen title.
Each contestant submitted an application and took part in an interview session that was conducted by Patty Neidert, this years Charlotte Pageant Coordinator.
They will be competing, for a share of over $20,000 in prizes and specialty gifts that will be distributed to contestants. The pageant has three age divisions with young ladies between 10 and 19 competing in modeling routines which will include casual wear and formal wear. They also display their personality and speaking skills while interviewing with this years Charlotte judging panel. Personality is the number-one aspect on which each contestant is judged during all phases of competition.
Winners will represent Charlotte and the surrounding communities at the Cities Of America National Competition that will take place in Orlando, Fla. Over $60,000 in prizes and awards will be presented at the national competition and each winner enjoys this expense-paid trip of five nights and six days in Orlando, Florida.
Spencer is the daughter of Jill and Bob Simons of Rockwell and Leo Jr. and Debbie Spencer of Cass City, Mich.
Farris is the daughter of Dolores Farris of Salisbury.
Kepley dedication
Kadence Elaine Kepley, 4-week-old daughter of Billie and Tonya Kepley, was presented for Christian dedication during the morning worship service April 29 at Landmark Church. Pastor Benny Hilliard officiated.
About 50 family and friends participated in the service and afterward attended a luncheon prepared by Kadences parents.
The infant, who was born March 29, received many gifts.
Kadences grandparents are Gene and Pat Kepley of Salisbury, Debra Cress of Mount Ulla and Carmon and Annette Cress of Bulh, Idaho.
