Phyllis Smitley

GOLD HILL – Phyllis Norma Jean Smitley, 74, of Gold Hill, formerly of Eckerty, Ind., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.

Born July 29, 1932, in Eckerty, Mrs. Smitley was a daughter of the late Mack and Lodema Faulkenburg. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gold Hill and Daughters of the Revolution.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Smitley; daughter Judy Vannatta; son Steven Smitley; and one brother and four sisters.

Survivors include sons Gene Smitley Jr. of Salisbury and Dr. Bruce Vannatta of Seal Beach, Calif.; daughters Linda Thorpe of Jamestown, Ind., and Jessica Hill of Gold Hill; sister Hazel McKinn of Marengo, Ind.; 38 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Service: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dillman Green Funeral Home in Marengo with the Rev. Philo Jones officiating. Burial will be at Wiseman Cemetery.

Visitation: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
